After Blackie was shod yesterday one of the girls that works on my yard commented to say it looked like the farrier had taken too much hoof off.
Blackie's hooves look like they have patches on them where you can see blood underneath. Everytime he is shod the same marks come up & have never been worried but not so sure now.
Groom reckons he has rasped away at the front too much & look very sore, although he is never lame or foot-sore on them.

I havent got any experience or advise but ill be watching this thread becasue i think i have the same problem with my shetland. Her back feet are fine but i am sure the last farrier took to much off the front feet.

Any pics? Sometimes trimming cleans up the foot or removes a surface layer so you can see bruising that was there all along but wasn't visible because it wasn't close enough to the surface.

Can you post a picture? My horse has bruises on her feet which grow out and are more obvious after shoeing, but that's because she bombs about and kicks and gets kicked a lot, hence the bruising. But a pic would enable me to let you know if it's the same thing as there are some farriers that will strip away the toe an awful lot :)

Same here, I'm thinking my farrier did the same thing last Wednesday when he was out.

Take one from the side and from the front and if possible hold the foot up and take a photo of the underneath :)
