How ridiculos would it be to buy this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Per-Una-brown-tweed-jacket_W0QQitemZ300136742932QQihZ020QQcategoryZ314QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Am thinking it would fit much nicer than any of the 'riding' ones.
Would it stand out like a sore thumb?

I love per una but wonder if the cut would be right for riding. I think that certainly for me there would not be enough movement across the shoulders.

Well its a size bigger than I usually wear, so was hoping to get a BP under it, but if not, then it will definitely be roomy.
Lookwise do you think id be pushing it?

personally, it's a no from me.
i like the tweed but a) it won't be vented at the back and b) it probably won't be long enough in the body.

sorry i dont like it,i would be ok for a lead rein mum,it would not be suitable for ridden showing ,not long enough, not the right cut/shape,no vents,no offence intended but you did ask for opinions.:o

yep - the riding jackets are cut to sit over a saddle, allow room for movement etc. could work for inhand or leadrein mumming, as said though.

Yes, a sore thumb being a bad way to stand out.
My previous show jacket was short, but because I'm slim and I ride a pony we pulled it off and IMHO I reckon it looked better than my current jacket :o
If you really like that sort of tweed, you may be able to find the fabric and have the jacket made up for you. We got a pattern from somebody who ordered it from the USA (Dad wouldn't use his card direct to the USA), and as Mum is a seamstress she made it up. The woman we bought the pattern off could sew, although she wasn't a professional, but she made the same jacket for her daughter and it looked just as good as the Pretty Ponies ones.
Having mentioned them, that's the sort of tweed you would find at Pretty Ponies.

I have a lovely brown tweed jacket that fits me really nicely (it was made by Orvis, not M&S) and it looked so good on the ground that I tried riding in it, in the hope that i could use it as a riding jacket as well. It isn't cut right, sadly; even though it does have back vents, it isn't roomy enough across the shoulders.

Thats what I was basing my idea on-being slim and on a dinky ikkle thing, but hey ho.
I did ask opinions, so won't take offence, its not like I said 'do i look stupid in this', I havent bought it, although it owuld be nice if i wasn't made to feel quite so stupid for asking by certain folks...but by no means all.

Mine was short through mistake (Americans have right short jackets!) and I only really like bum freezers because it grew on me. Unfortunately it didn't grow with me so I'm now in a proper full length tweed, which would look better if I hadn't stopped growing as soon as I bought it.
This is probably the closest you're going to get to that jacket in a riding jacket

Maids from £135. They do it in green too but it's not as nice IMO. Emphasis is on loud overchecks rather than the mix there seems to be in that jacket. As well, I have a feeling it's a "hairy tweed" rather than a smooth one, definate fashion jacket. That might not make sense to anybody but me mind.

I understand you totally, I'm not sure it was particularly the colour just the overall thing, but that might be because I think riding tweeds are ugly jackets (and I'm tight-my shirts came from tesco's back to school range)

What don't you like about them?
Admittedly very few tweeds make me sit up and go wow. Especially on the PP stand a couple of years ago, I thought the mustard one was awful. :D

Daffy-I think the length is actually the thing, they just look dowdy (there, I said it, I am a bad person). They always seem to look good on a horse, but I don't think I can picture me in one looking good.
Mehitabel-Not looked into it too much although will bear the name in mind. Still not convinced showing will ever really be my line.

You ride a NF right?
Do you normally compete against kids or adults? If kids, just have a few inches off the bottom of a jacket, and avoid tack and turnout if the judge looks traditional. ;)
I think this is ok length wise, but I imagine it'd look better with long boots, there's a bit too much bright leg. I know they're Connies, but still.

I think this is too short, even for the jockey. Another inch or two and it might be ok.

Daffy- I see your point, on the ground the second would look better, but she needs her arse covering, not because its at all big, but because its yellow, and looks silly. You are in need right though, its a NF, we don't know whi'll we'll be competing against as neither of us have been to a show (ever) yet. Were meant to be going to a RC show next weekend, but our lift's horse is out of action (a poohsmate special), so I think I shall just go watch and suss out what the competitions like and whats actually going to happen to us.

I just sold a gorgeous tweed on eBay, originally from Harrods, and it only went for £10 - you really can pick up some bargains. My mum made me sell it in place of my new Caldene Belvoir. :(
