actually help out at shows? I see a lot of people who just expect to go and compete, but aside from entry fees, never seem to put anything back in to the shows.

By help out I mean steward (or judge if applicable!), help set up the day before, or do things like catering for the judges/stewards or take entries.

Me, my mum, my cousin!

We help out, putting courses up at 7pm the night before, and if its a 2 day show, do it on a friday, then on a saturday.
Just me, my mum, my cousin, the BSJA course builder, my mums mate, my best mate.
No one else thats on the committee. Its dreadful.

We do the gate/collecting ring. (me and mum and cousin) After ive competed that is!
And my mum has had to judge once :D

I love stewarding. I think if you are interested in showing it gives you an invaluable insight into what the judge is looking for, plus it helps the organisers of the show.

I'd recommend it to anyone.

Having ran a show with the shop i really just ran the stall as thats my main job, but helped when possible in other areas. Alot of people were very helpful. Doesnt matter how organised we are- help is always a bonus!

I was the secretary for a saddle club for 2 years and (the majority) people think only about their horse and thats it. Many a time we'd be running late and people would be huffing and puffing but no one offered to help!

Now my dad normally ends up opening gates/putting jumps up etc. Sometimes its the little things that count! :)

i used to help at a local equine charity every weekend when i lived in devon and they held shows so i helped at them , i did the clear round (actually i raised the most money in the clear round compared to what they've ever had :D) and i stewarded the SJ a few times filling in places , also helped setting up the shows , god that was hard though !

Worth it though , had a great time and helped out :)

I've stewarded for showing before. It was great, I learned loads about what the judge was looking for. I've also written for dressage judging, anf likewise, also learnt a lot. I'd do either again.:)

I steward for South West Ponies and am on the committee - volunteered for 1 class 5 years ago and been doing it ever since - my title for champs is Senior Steward which prob means more hours and more competitors will think they can have a go at me. LOL. I have also done a bit of judgeing mostly for SWEP an equine charity in Devon.

I run a show each year and judge as much as I can. I'm happy to steward too. I love helping out in whatever way I can.

I was on the local appaloosa club committee for 4 years. We ran a 2 day show each year, so I was always called on to help set up the day before, or ribbon run between my classes. Saturday is western day, so I wasn't usually competing until the late afternoon or early evening, so I'd end up gate stewarding for a while. Then on Sunday I'd help to clean up after my classes.

Our local dressage club has 2 forms when you enter. One is for your entries, another is a job list which you choose a job from to do before you go. Things like bring a plate for the judges, sweep the toilet block, put up arenas, take down arenas. That sort of thing.

Plus I've helped at loads of organised competitive trail rides and fence judged at countless one day events, written for the dressage judge, or been involved with my pony club shows, setting up show jumping rounds etc!
