View Full Version : Oh well - no new pony for me :(

I'm feeling a bit miserable today as my offer for my school pony was rejected.

He was up for sale last year for £1500 and when i enquired about him a few weeks ago they wanted £2500. My RI thought I'd get him for about £2200 but I put in a cheeky wee offer of £1900. The've flat out rejected it saying they won't accept a penny under asking price and have also advised that because he's going so well they don't really want to sell him so even if i did offer asking price they may not accept it.

I'm absolutely gutted. I'd pretty much made my mind up that I was going to get him and had even considered paying asking price but since this won't guarantee me the pony I'm not going to bother.

I'm also a bit relieved because I'm trying to think positive and it gives me more time to save up in preparation for buying and to improve my riding a bit more.

They are still letting me loan him out on a Sunday and I ride him in a lesson during the week - I don't expect anyone will offer money for him if he's not for sale so at least he's not going any where - think I'd just got my hopes up a bit too much.

My RI keeps telling me that the right horse will find me but I do love my pony and had my heart set on him.

Never mind - I'll just keep up with my lessons and I'm thinking of doing a IH course so maybe when I do have enought money I can buy him and get even more out of him!

too bad Kirstin, sounds a bit depressing when you had set your heart on him. Why don't you ask for first refusal should they decide to sell him again - that way you should get the chance to meet their price before they sell him to anyone else.

And its great that you can loan him all day Sunday, thats a fantastic option. At our RS Sunday is their busiest day with clients..

Thats a good idea - but I don't think they'll sell him any time soon now that he's turned good. What makes it worse that its only since I've started loaning him out that he's started working better - I'm not saying it's all down to me but he seems to love the 1-2-1 attention - I spend ages just grooming him and it makes him so calm.
My RS is only open 4 days a week so I have him all day sunday and could probably have him during the week to - which I gues wouldn't be much different from buying him and putting him on full livery!

I'm confused (sorry) have you tried offering them the asking price?
surely it's worth trying? (as long as your are able to pay that much)
I hope everything works out for you, and that you get your pony :):)

The owners daughter made it quite clear that they'd rather not sell him and that this would be the lowest amount they'd consider.

He's only 14.1 and I think my heart would be ruling my head a bit if I bought him now and then stuggled financially (he doesn't come with any tack so I'd be looking at another 1k for that)- gonna save up and try again in maybe 8 months when I find out what my annual bonus is!
