Hi
Only had my guy 4 weeks and want to take him to a inhand veteran class. I have been to shows but never entered myself. I was hoping I could have some advice on what the judges are looking for in turnout for the horse, and the owner, what we are expected to do, and what do you lead the horse in ? I am not looking to win just give my guy a day out and have some fun. He is 20 and although sold as a 162 he actually measures 171 on the stick:rolleyes: I just want to do the right thing and not look like the new owner novice show person I am:D

In hand veteran would expect him to be turned out the same as if he was in a regular class, hunter bridle for a hunter, bling show bridle for a show pony.

I would guess a plain havanna hunter bridle with flat browband and noseband wouldn't be a problem whatever he is. We use a Pelham with double reins the same as we would in a ridden class but I dont think a snaffle would be a problem.

Neat plaits and a pulled tail I would guess but would need to see a pic to be sure. If its affiliated you need to put his age on the bridle.

You, tweed jacket, shirt and tie with tiepin. Light trousers if he has dark legs, dark if his legs are light, shoes you can run in. Nothing wrong with wearing a navy velvet riding hat but its not essential as long as you wear a hat. Thin elastic or plaiting threat for your number. Gloves and show cane.

You will be expected to walk round as a group then trot to the back. When lined up they will call you out, look him over and ask you to walk him and and then trot.

Thats it I think

Is it affiliated to the VHS? or just your average veteran class?
