Alright, so, I show in simple local/small shows, like the County fair, and large Open shows where QH's always win, lol... So I don't show at higher level places, like Lamplight. We're perfectly fine with Fox Valley, and Spring Valley...
I've been showing a 13yr. tobiano, flashy paint mare. Right now we're just doing halter, (she's doing awesome there, although we have issues with standing still which causes the judges to get slightly annoyed. Halter tips would be great...), and trotting classes, since her canter is good/controllable yet.
Since regular plaiting/braiding for me takes hours, I won't do them anymore, since they manage to fall out overnight anyway.
I've been doing a running braid, which I can do quickly and neatly. The drawback, is that she can't eat her grass, which makes her annoyed, which leads to her getting antsy in the halter ring. And if I make the end too tight, she ends up pull her hair out, which isn't particularly good either.
That's what I do for english. But we also do some western. I'd rather not spend hours banding her mane. Besides, it'd be too short after that to do my running braid.
I was researching, and found the diamond/web braids they do for arabs, and other horses with long manes.
Would that be acceptable for a paint horse, in halter, english, and western? I'm guessing not, but I want to make sure anyway.
Most people in the shows either band, plait, running braid, or leave it down if they don't care.
Is there a braid that would allow my paint to eat, and is good for halter, english, and western?
Also, I normally do an inside out frenchbraid, or something like it, on her tail, but I'm never quite sure what to do with the end of the braid.
Does someone know how to make the end look good?
Thanks for reading, and if you can help. Sorry that I make this fairly long.
