Whilst Jake was being ridden today, we noticed something rather strange happening around the areas of his off-side stifle. I unfortunately couldn't take a video as didn't have my camera with me. As he walks, a lump which feels like bone almost pops out just below his flank, it does this in trot as well, but only on the off-side. When he stands square you can't notice it, and it feels very similar to the near side. He's not lame at all in walk or trot, and it seems to cause him no bother whatsoever. Could it be that it's an old injury that never really recovered properly and causes him no worry, or could it be something more sinister? He's having the vet out in a week to do his innoculations so he'll have a look at it then, just thought I'd see if anyone one on here had any ideas as we're rather perplexed by it! It looks serious as if he's broken something, yet he's not bothered by it and will w/t/c in the field quite happily!

Thought I'd add: We only bought him a week ago, no vetting as he was cheap as chips from the gypsies, so we dont' know anything about his history. Think this must be the reason he was so cheap as he probably won't be able to show with this.

Sound slike a slippy stifle to me!

it can be a problem in Shetlands, it's something the breeding vets are really hot on, nothing with a slippy stifle should be bred from.
