Sorry about another pus thread :o

My favourite RS horse (a 15hh cob mare) is currently lame and has pus in her hoof. The thing is she's been lame on and off with this same thing for ages and I'm curious as to what is wrong. She's sound and brought back into work and then a few weeks later she goes lame again. :(

Any ideas?

Sounds like an abscess; but sadly I dont know too much about them:p

they can be intermitently lame with a foot abcess. but if thats what it is they should have treated it by now. It is usually treated by the farrier or vet pin pointing where the abcess is and digging a whole to let out the pus, then pulticing and often oral antibiotics and bute. it usually only takes a few days to clear the infection and then they are usually sound again.

Apparently they've now finally find out what was wrong....she had some kind of tumour in her hoof which is why it kept going pus-y. When they examined her last they were just about to say they couldn't find anything...but then they found it. It didn't show up on the x-ray. Now she's had a window cut out of the front of her hoof and hopefully she'll be on the mend. Poor girl...she must have been in so much pain.

Fingers crossed :)
