Does she? I didn't know that, when I saw a ridden cob class I didn't see any:confused:

She can just be in a normal snaffle bridle. But if that's not going to work (:p) then pelham and double reins have to be used together.

Mehitabel has a great site about showing attire. Search one of her posts, the link is in her sig :)

To be honest I'm not sure I would show her in coloured classes. I know she has some blue patches, but they aren't really that visible. It would be worth trying a blue/black shampoo to see if this brings the colour out. Feeding things like seaweed and paprika can help darken a coat too. I imagine it'll depend on the judge on the day.

Essentially, the following is ideal

Navy hat with leather harness (beagler sometimes ok above local, depends on show)
Shirt and tie
Tweed jacket
Brown leather gloves and cane
Canary/beige breeches
Long leather boots, with garterstraps if hunt topped.
Spurs - often against the rules at local level, but expected above that. You can buy dummy spurs (just a band, no point) which would do fine.

Hunter bridle (quite heavy as she is a cob) and yes a pelham with two reins is better than a snaffle unless in novice classes (or riding club horse!)
Saddle, preferably straight cut to show off the shoulder. In any case, it should be well fitted.
Self coloured girth, it's worth trying to see whether she suits dark leather or white nylon best.
Assuming she doesn't have any blue by her tack areas, I'd go for brown tack, it doesn't look as harsh. If she does have blue there, I'd try different sorts of brown tack to see what suits, and if none does, then go for black.

Think that sorts it, no boots/martingales allowed except for the jumping phase of wh, and then the boots have to come off. :)

The shows around here, I would definately try her in coloured classes, especially the show you're thinking of, they are all so low key and she has got splodges, its worth a go!

Are you going to do working cob at all with her?

Judges like horses in double bridles and reins but if you don't have a double bridle rugby pelhams look like one! But judges also like snaffels although you may not have much control in a snaffel if you normally ride in a gag!:D

Thank you! That was great daffy dilly! what colour shirt or tie or doesnt it matter? I am kind of borrowing stuff from people at the mo as I dont want to go buying it all incase I dont do showing, xc and sj is my goal! but thought id have a go seeing as i can!

yes laura, well you know more about troon show than i do, so its low key? ideal! not sure about working hunter, to be honest, not done alot of jumping with her, if theres not many people watching i'll do it for a laugh and see what happens!

oooh i have black tack but is that still to have brown gloves? and hat thats def navy and not black? my silk is suede looks inbetween black and navy!

I would just get as close to the ideal as possible, there will be people a LOT worse turned out! (at Gwinear show in the mountain and moorland class, a girl had a pink numah and girth and her number was tied on with pink baler twine!)

I haven't actually competed at Troon funnily enough, but I always go and help my friend. I will be showing this year, no matter what!

If you have a coloured which is fading its perfectly OK to show as a coloured as long as you register with CHAPS and BSPA while it still is a coloured. They are known as historical coloureds and can still be shown in coloured classes if they go completely white.

I would only ever use black tack on a Piebald, on all other brown is correct.

Most people who shoe ridden cobs do so with a hunter bridle with a wide noseband, 1.5 to 2" are not unusual. Double or Pelhams are correct unless its a novice class. A Rugby Pelham where a slip head can be used are better, they look more like a double.

Cream is the best shirt colour. You can get it by washing a white shirt at 60 degrees with a few cleap dusters :D. Green tweed is the most used, blue isn't popular but some people wear brown.

Be careful with the spurs, they are correct in a ridden cob class but not always in a coloured. One society allows them, another doesn't.

Right I have my hat silk which is navy/black, jodhs, tweed jacet and will sort shirt and tie. so brown gloves? I have black ones, I dont have leather long riding boots, its something I am working towards! I usually ride in chaps and jodh boots, I have rubber riding boots but never wear them because I hate them! do I wear them or get leather ones? spent a lot on horsey stuff this month, not sure what to do...she has black tack, I wont be changing that yet as not sure if will be doing loads of showing, she doesnt have a flat nose band/brow band again i would get one but dont want to unless we are going to stick at showing. This show is a really low key one so i dont know if i should get all of this stuff just for this one show? I will of course if i am going to do it all the time but for the minute im doing it to see what shes like and kind of for fun because we are sj and xc pair!

i wont wear spurs, but il try and get a pelham for it!

When I reply to these posts, and I'm sure the others agree, we dont expect you to go off and buy complete outfits and new tack for a local show.

Its just if you know what is correct, if you are buying anything new, it will be the right thing.

OK you have tweed, shirt and tie (tiepin is good if you have one), beige or cream/yellows jods and black joddy boots with leather gaiter/chaps (if your chaps aren't leather then use the long rubber boots) - no problems there at all. The clear instant shoe shine (the sort with a large sponge at the front) are brilliant for giving rubber boots a shine, almost look like leather.

If you were going to borrow or buy anything I would replace the hat silk for a blue velvet one, do you have a cane or brown short whip.

Your black tack will be OK for local, dont worry about the type of bridle, just keep it plain, no bling or velvet browband for a cob.

Just enjoy it, good luck

Tie colour doesn't really matter, choose one that suits you or picks up on colours in the tweed. They aren't usually plain, small patterns on them.

Have a great time, make sure you take some pics and post them :D

An Irish Draught is a breed. A cob is a type. My LW Show Cob IS an Irish Draft.
