Following on from another thread who remembers these horsey programmes.

What are our kids missing, theres nothing like this anymore.

1. White Horses - with the theme tune 'On white horses let me ride away'
which actually got into the charts.
I used to 'love' this programme.

2. Mr Ed - the talking horse (funny, very funny)

Then we had the real classics like

Black Beauty

Champion the Wonder Horse

Funilly enough, I think it was Barbara Woodhouse that got me into horses. I know she is famous for her dog training but in the depths of my mind I seem to remember her dealing with horses too

Yes, I'm of that certain age where I'm quite pleased to actually remember things :D I think there is/was a boxed set of Champion the Wonder Horse on Amazon and I was really tempted to buy it LOL. Also there was My Friend Flicka, Fury, Follyfoot Farm and probably more that I've forgotten about;)

Just found this link to Fury - scroll down and on the right hand side (above windows icon) you can watch some episodes (small screen).

Aaah, Follyfoot. I simply wanted to BE Dora (the girl who ran the stables in the series) when I was little!

All together now...

Down in the meadow where the wind blows free
In the middle of the field stands the lightning tree
Its limbs all torn from the day it was born
For the tree was born in a thunderstorm

Grow, grow the lightning tree, it's never too late for you and me
Grow, grow the lightning tree, never give in too easily...

:)

ha !
remember white horses, and also one that seems linked to it in my mind, but not to do with horses Belle and Sebastian, he had a big dog ( st bernard or similar) and was a very pouty little french boy who was always shouting " leave my dog alone " ( you have to read that in french accent ) must have just been on at same time on that one channel we used to have . my first equine encounter was muffin the mule ( sounds dodgy i know ) but my favorite was the lone rangers side kick tonto 's coloured horse my husband says his name was scout. much prefered him to silver

He He I remember that as well, if I remember rightly the 'English' was dubbed over the programme. I think it was a pyrenean Mountain Dog if I remember rightly.

Although I am not owning up to remembering Muffin the Mule:)

Yeah I remember Belle and Sebastian:) I think all the actors spoke in French and the English was dubbed over the top:) The dog was a Pyrenian Mountain Dog and he was the best thing in the whole programme.:)

However, I am not admitting to remembering Muffin the Mule (I'm sure they would not be allowed to call it that now:eek:)

yes he was a pyrenean and it was dubbed, isnt it funny how it all comes back from that many years ago , but i cant remember what i did last night ( or was that the bacardi )
God i must be older than all of you, can still sing the theme tune to muffin ( no they could not call it that now )

I never said I couldn't remember it, just I am not admitting it:)

Don't know if you're aware-but they are bringing out a complete series on DVD featuring " FOLLYFOOT FARM & BLACK BEAUTY".

Ooh, thanks for letting us know that, Jayne! I've long since thought those series should be out on DVD. Maybe White Horses will be next! :)

Oh, and my ringtone is the Black Beauty theme too. Women of a certain age go all wistful when they hear it ring!!

I had more of a soft spot for the biker character Ron Stryker. I always did go for the rebellious type! ;)

Oh Oh I want White Horses as a ring tone:)

On White Horses let me ride away
To a world (I think) of ****** so far away
Let me run
To the sun
On White Horses
Snowy White Horses
Let me ride away

It was sort of like that, I am sure one of you will correct it:)

and what a lovely thought to be snuggled up on the sofa watching a
horsey programme:)

I loved Follyfoot when I was younger - I still have a couple of the Annuals - much treasured! I got a little overexcited when I found out you could buy the series on dvd.

White Horses was my biggest favourite, I used to spend hours daydreaming that Boris was mine. If you have a look on YouTube some kind soul has posted masses of clips from the series and has started a campaign for a dvd release. I also have the single of White Horses, it still plays although a little scratchy at time, so I downloaded it from Limewire. ;)

Does anyone else remember "Horse in the House"? I remember the horses being Orbit & Astronaut (cool names I thought at the time). I spent a couple of hours drunkenly discussing this over a bottle of Absolut Razberri on Saturday night at a bbq - oh happy days.

I knew I remembered the name "My friend Flicka" but couldnt picture it - I just googled it , and remember I read the book years ago as a child! I loved reading (still do) and devoured any horsey book I could. I was particularly fond of the Silver Brumby series!

Yes barabara woodhouse dealt with horse too, i had her book, and i remeber following some of her stable management advice like plaiting the straw at the stable door!!!! won me best turnout at PC camp tho.

I think she did some strange blowing into horses nostrils to calm them or something didn't see

I seem to remember Harvey Smith saying something unprintable about Barbara Woodhouse blowing up a horse´s nostrils!
Mirror I just loved the Silver Brumby series too!! :)
