Anyone had experience of feeding foals on simple systems feeds?
Did you use the simple systems on its own or combine it with a stud mix?

This is what they told me:
Thanks for getting in touch with Simple System Ltd about feeding youngsters. Yes, it is possible, and yes, it is healthy! In fact, feeding feeds free from starchy grains and pulses is very good, as the onset of certain joint problems has been positively correlated with the onset of feeding cereals etc.
It is not appropriate to generalise, as we make different suggestions according to breed, type, management etc. but most youngstock do well on Lucerne as it is naturally low in sugars but high in nutrients. It may be necessary for those in their first winter to have some Red Bag Grass Pellets. Total Eclipse is a good complementary feed, used at 25 g per 100 kg. Traditional Brewers Yeast can be helpful in some situations as can Eclipse Recovery. If you visit our gallery you will see Tilly, an orphaned foal who was reared on our feeds. All my own youngsters are fed Simple System Ltd feeds and have been fed by these principles for 4 generations.
If you get back to me with more details of the youngstock you intend feeding, I can give some more detailed suggestions for you.
Kind regards
Jane van Lennep

Hi, i feed my two welsh sec a yearlings on ss feed, they have the green gold which is lucerne chopped up and instant linseed. In winter i add in the SS Sugar Beet. When i got my foals at 8months old they were in poor condition, they have now filled out at a good rate and have glossy coats and hard hooves. They live out 24/7. I have fed them stud mix once when i ran out of chop and they behaved like a like a pair of hooligans LOL :)
