Has anyone joined CHAPs?
i was lookin on the website the other day and got confused it looks abit complicated :s
just wonderin how much is would cost and where the shows were normally at?

currently getting voltan chaps registered. The forms on the website nevr worked and the lady emailed me them. Got my vet to do the diagram etc but never sent them off yet.

You can join CHAPS or BSPA or both, you have to join and if your a junior a parent has to join too. You can then have your horses passport overstamped if it doesn't already have one of their passports.

I think it cost about £60 for myself and my daughter plus about £20 for overstamping for each one but you only pay the overstamping once. You also have to get qualifying cards the HOYS and RIHS ones you have to pay for.

As to which is best, it depends on what you want to do and to some extent where you live.

There is a tendancy for CHAPS to have more qualifiers in the north and BSPA in the south. Also with CHAPS you can qualify for HOYS and with BSPA for Royal International.

Most county shows have a BSPA Royal International qualifier and CHAPS have regional shows and a few others where you can qualify for HOYS.

Both societies have an annual national championship, usually one follows another on the last weekend in August / first weekend in September. You either just go and enter non final classes or qualify at various shows around the country and enter the finals. BSPA nationals are at Keysoe in Bedfordshire and CHAPS at Myerscough in Lancashire.
