Are there any particular types or colours of horses that are more prone to bots. I ask because when I checked my horses last night there was nothing, go up this morning and Thomas [black shetland] is covered in them all down his legs and half way up his neck and yet Caramac [ palomino Cobx] didnt have one. Both were in the same field last night so I would have thought they would have both been covered. Does anyone have a tried and tested way of getting rid of them or do I just have to keep scrapping away with the dreaded bot knife?

I have no idea to the answer to your question.
2 years ago my mare was with her previous owners and was literally covered in bot eggs. She almost looked like a coloured pony. Since I have moved her to where we are now this is the 2nd year and not a sign of a single bot egg . Odd.

I really don't think so - surely if it were true, we'd know about it. If anything, ask your vet. Some horse -i.e. those with featheror who are fairly inactive - may have a tendancy to pick up bot eggs more than others, but i'm sure there's a good reason for it, rather than coat colour.

Definitely keep scraping away with that bot knife hun, however i would have a chat with your vet to make sure your pasture/worming routine is suitable.
