It to prevent wind getting into her bits and to ensure pregnacy.

Please can anyone give me more info, what is the exact for this medical procedure Im ashamed to say that i dont have a clue.
And is it important?

But how do you know if a mare is still pregnant cos you cannot scan with the stiches keeping it shut.

Also would like to know is it common for mares to infertile or not able to become pregant again.
My neighbour TB is still at stud trying to get her pregnant.
Why does it happen, how to prevent it or spot a mare that may find it difficult to conceive (sp?) or can only the vet confirm this?

Thanks for feedback in advance.

Called a Caslicks. Stops a mare with 'baggy' girly bits getting muck in the wrong places and causing infections which will abort or prevent pregnancy occuring.

Should still be able to scan though

They do it with sheep to stop prolapse, you have to be ready with a knife should they go into labour.

Is it a serious condition?
This would her pregnancy if successful (2nd failed).
There was no foal this summer but could the condition have there all along unnoticed and that why 2nd pregnancy failed?
Or should we have noticed? It did look slight collapsed sort of going in that straight, i hope that makes sense.

Gosh the knife is a bit of worry cos her first from last year was a surprise and slightly early born middle of May.
Or can the vet give a rough date?

My mare had this done last year and this last year pregnant vet removed staples few weeks before she foaled this year not in foal though but scanning was no problem

A neice of a friend had to have this done to her mare - she (the mare!) had had a lot of foals (vet guessed 5+ at the very least - the mare is between 8 and ten years old). The mare kept getting repeated infections and a variety of gunks and nasty things coming out. Repeated antibiotic treatments failed and this op was reccomended.

The mare was taken to vets and had the procedure under relatively mild sedation in the morning, and was back home by tea time.

Things have improved since - she is overall in better condition as she's not constantly battling infection but has had one repeat infection since which was cleared with antibiotics.

I don't know anything about the fertility side of things, sorry :)
