I bet they argue as to who is going to lead! :p That's a great indoor school you've got there.

Actually they didn't argue at all, they bicker in pairs more, and try to race each other, Andy seems quite content to follw Charles Buttons Esq's bottom.

The school is useful.

Have the boys missed their vocation then? They'd look lovely to the Barry Wheelwright gig! :)

I think that this is probably the most understated comment ever! Especially where you live!:D

Very smart :)

Are they unattached at the moment in case of emergency?

They look great.

I know nothing about driving - is it harder for you when they are in tandem or pairs?

Wally

I am a bit of a one for "suck it and see" but with a HUGE margin for safety!

Today, though, I lashed up a set of leader traces, tandem keys on Andrew's collar and we attached traces up! And you know? I do beleive it's addictive!

They are so much better as a tandem than a pair any day! My lessons with a top national team and tandem driver has paid off and all the little hints and tips are coming back to me and I am as chuffed with myself as I am the boys.

I had thought LHHI 4 reins would be beyond me, perhaps not, it's the hardes discipline of all in the driving world, tandem, but once you have jumped in with both feet, it's not as scary as once it was.

Perhaps I ought to aim a bit higher and go for the whole hogg!

I'm getting ideas for my driving lesson this afternoon. My instructor did say we could try something different ;):D

Wally

Trandem is 3 across, randem is three in a line.

Zingy what did you get up to?

Zingy
25th Aug 2007, 08:22 PM
Thanks Wally. I'm glad you said what 3 across was, as that would have been my next question!

I didn't get up to much :o My instructor was ill, so ended up not driving. And that was before I suggested stringing all her horses together as some weird looking multiple :D

My practice for this week will just have to be long reining the little grey one :)

wooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwww randem ........ I thought tandem / team drivers were walking on water ....... flipping heck what do you do with all them reins

Wally
26th Aug 2007, 09:34 AM
Generally, Tazzle, I am knitting a fair isle gansey with all those reins, but the more I do the more instinctive it becomes.

The idea is to maintain the contact of all 4 reins in your left, as you would in singles, Then "play the harp" with the right!

if you ask for a left turn you ask as you would in singles, only you pick up the leader rein first, then the wheeler to ask, but if the wheeler cuts the corner you can hook your little finger over the right wheel rein to stop him falling in.

There are some really clever little tricks to straighten them up if they go a bit dog legged, you take the leader's off side and wheelers nearside reins and tweak them and like magic they straighten up.......so long as you go for the correct pair of reins, get it wrong and you jack-knife! :) :D

I think, next year I might show the pair as a tandem, we'll see how I get on, but I'm not going in the ring, until my rein handling is instinctive.

I think you should give it a go as a tandem at the shows next year, would look very elegant to the BW.

I like tandem too - as Wally says once you have got the 'knack' it is not half as hard as you expect. I need some lessons though to get the full tips and tricks, as I (like Wally was) am a self-taught tandem driver.

Unicorn is much easier than tandem but I have never tried randem/trandem or in fact team as I have never had enough ponies all driving at once to try. One day maybe - after all we are in the right place to easily acquire more ponies! :D
