Excuse all the questions, but as I'm asking my vet to write me out a script so that I can purchase Pergolide cheaper from my chemist, I feel a bit cheeky asking all the questions, and I know so many people on here know lots of stuff about lots of things.
My 21 year old has tested positive for cushings.

Have any of you started on a low dose and increased if necessary?

How long does it take to have any effect.

How long should I give a low dose before I realise it's not working and I need to increase the dose?

Has it got to be given at any special time of the day.

Will it keep the LGL under control, and will my pony be able to go back to some very restricted grazing - she's on zero grazing at the moment, due to LGL.

I'm sure there's loads more I need to know, so any information will be more than welcome. I'm giving her Vitex at the moment, and I know that I can give that and Pergolide.

Thanks all.

My pony is on vitex so no personal experience, but what I know of other people:j It can be given any time of day

Responses seem to vary.

How long have you been on vitex? & what dose?

Have you asked for advice on the cushings/ ir websites? They gave me good advice.

She's only been on Vitex 20ml dose (from Jackie Taylor) for about 3 weeks, but am just worried about the LGL aspect. I don't want her to go down with a real bad bout of laminitis - hence the Pergolide. If she did'nt have the laminitis, I wouldn't be so worried.

My pony has never had laminitis since being on vitex. I would give it a chance. Pergolide can have side effects. You need to combine with a low calorie diet though.
