Sham has been quiet last couple of days, today I went and he was quiet, grumpy and also a bit shuffly and pottery. Brought him in off of the grass onto a deep bed with soaked hay, will keep him in for a while to recover and so I can re-think his grass/diet management again. But how long to keep him in for? 24 hours ? couple of days? a week? Its about a month for a proper but mild laminitis bout isnt it? He's nowhere near that but definitely off. He doesnt like being in much though so as short as possible is best :(

If caught before it actually blooms into laminitus we keep the lami prone ponies in until they get back to their old selves. :)

Just been back down to check on him. He hasn't eaten much hay, some though. One poo. Still a bit quiet and not begging me to go out as he would normally.

Benj was a bit like that a couple of weeks ago - very quiet and looking a bit miserable. I kept him in 24 hours for almost a week until he was better (and shouting to come out!) - he just went out for about half an hour a day while I was mucking out etc, then started putting him out at night and in every day. I've tried leaving him out twice during the day, just for 1 day, but he looks awful by the evening. He's got no signs of lami, I've a sneaky feeling he may just be tired and sleeps better when he's in (he's an odd pony )

You're better off overdoing the box rest than underdoing it.

bruno and bailey have only just(Today) been allowed onto grass for 4 hours and will be limited to every other day. they were taken off grass on 2nd aug, so thats been 4 weeks.I havent shut them in a stable as i only have shelters but have used my winter paddock which has been topped and is only weeds, bruno was worse and was in a tiny area /paddock of his own so bailey didnt chase him.Bailey was only a bit iffy but its better to be safe then sorry.
if you have a small area he can wander about it attatched to the stable he might be happier..dont be tempted to turn him back out too early as he will get it again and you will end up having to keep him in for longer.

I would keep him in until all the signs you are seeing disappear and he is back to his usual self. I would then re-introduce him to the grass slowly and carefully. What is his routine like at the moment? You know I think keeping them exercising daily and fittening them up is key at keeping problems at bay. It doesn't matter if it is not ridden work. I'm doing daily inhand work with my horse and it seems to be helping with her reintroduction to grass.
