One of the girls who keeps her horse with mine, is moving to London from Devon. Her parents will now look after her horse, and they live just outside london. The horse is an elderly cob, who hasnt to her knowledge been boxed in the last 10 years. He is used for light hacking so is not totally unfit, and is very placid normally. I would put his age at 25+. Having no experience of boxing something of this age, or this distance, I wondered if any of you had any advice. She will of course talk to her vet first, but any experience you have would be very welcome.

Many thanks

if he is in good health then i can't see there being many problems. I used to loan and compete a pony who was 25+ every weekend without issue. I'd maybe try him for a few trial runs in the box/trailer first, see how he copes, and i always ensured my older pony had good travel boots and tail guard on.

Ditto the above.
I bought a horse who was vetted as 10. (he was in a very sorry state when I got him, I travelled him from Newcastle to north of Edinburgh) I got him back to good health and competed for 2 years. When the vet came to rasp his teeth he reckoned the horse was between 30 and 40! 7 vets opinions later and they all reckoned 35ish!!!
As long as you have a professional/careful driver he should be fine. They tend to go to 'sleep' on motorways...
