Pulling a tail ..... how?

I've always had fine-haired horses with perfect tails ... but have now decided to grow out my cob's mane, tail and feathers to show her as coloured traditional It's becoming apparent that her tail is a complete disgrace and I have no idea how to sort it out! I've pulled many manes in my life, but this tail business is new to me :D.

Any help welcome!

if you're showing as a coloured traditional, i don't think you do pull the tail? check with someone who actually shows them, but i have a feeling it is as much hair as you can muster up.

otherwise, the best advice i can give is to get one of the mars coat king tail rakes and use that. marvellous inventions.

Interesting .... I assumed the tails were pulled as the other horses all look so perfect, whereas Lucy and I look like we've stepped out of a farmyard. That's *after* many hours of washing and grooming :(.

i might well be wrong - as i say, i don't do traditional cobs, i show native ponies. but with all the mane and feathers, i'd be surprised if tails were pulled.

No pulling. ;)

Wash it, condition it, hair spray it, and bandage it. Take the bandage off after a night/couple of hours and see what you're left with. If needs be some very discreet pulling may be in order to get the hairs that didn't flatten down, but they shouldn't look like they've been pulled at all.

I'm pretty sure that they are only meant to be trimmed as little as possible, but I'm going from what I think I remember, having never shown one myself.

Definately no pulling, but they can take 2 years to grow out really nicely.

Some people I know changed from being hogged to traddy and they had to show as plaied for a season in between as the manes and tails weren't long enough.
