just a quick post before I go to work.

Took B out for a leisurly ride yesterday afternoon with one of my friends from the yard on her loan 17.2hh TB.

We walked most of the way with a couple little trots till we were heading for home and spied 'our' stubble field!! It's one of the few thats still stubble! So we got all excited and decided to go for a canter through it.

Pal asked if we'd go hell for leather or take it at a more sedate pace. I suggested sedate to begin with then let them pick up speed if they wanted to.

So B bounced over to the field (my excitment rubbing of on him!) and as soon as his toes hit the stubble he was trotting! lol! So I heard my friend say, lets just go then. And off we went.....

Well, my pony pulled out all the stops and clocked a speed we've never gone at before!!

my friends TB wasnt exactlly strolling along at a canter and we were right behind. I thought when she asked him to gallop that we'd be left for dust, but oh no. From somewhere B found another gear and he flew!!! I was shouting a rude word and laughing!! And my friend turned round in the saddle (she later told me she thought we'd be way behind her) to see us right behind her!

Good god can my little boy fly!! lol!!

bless :)

it's odd when little ones suddenly go up a gear, isn't it? angel did it twice and it was ever so strange (fun though!), she somehow lowered herself rather a lot in the process so i was almost worried my feet would be on the floor :D

lol!

Yeah, B went streamlined!

His ears were back, his neck fully stretched out!! He looked so determined! And that was from being on his back! lol!

Many moons ago I went on a beach ride ( It poured with rain, but that's another story:mad:) Some of the riders asked for the schools ponies, I couldn't understand why on Earth they didn't want a 'decent' size horse:D
Us folk on the horses just didn't see them for sand:) They flewlol

lol!

I think ponies can just go into there flat out pace in the blink of an eye while horses take longer to get there so if you raced over a distance the horse would catch up and over take, but on short distances you cant see the pony for dust! lol!

one of the fastest ponies i ever knew was an 11.2 welsh A.
over a 1/2 mile running start gallop he clocked at average 25 miles an hour!

the claim for a top spec TB racer is only about 30 MPH

difference was my 'little sod' had the accelleration of a drag race car!!

i was once on a beach ride in wales, the horses were going fast when they were overtaken by a skinny built pony of about 13 hh it shot off out of sight, goodness knows how fast it was going but I couldn't catch up with it on a 16hh+ horse!

ponies = more challenge in a smaller package!!

I hack out on an 11.2, a 13.2 and two 16.2s... guess which are the fast ones!! For a good gallop I would pick a pony over a horse any day!

Hahha my connemara is sooooo lazy in the school but out he's faster than any TB! He just flies through the fields but luckily always stops well before the road - thank God! Any tips on stopping would be appreciated lol...

I know what you mean about the drag racer thing its like one minute he is walking then boom full gallop in about 2 secs! Bye bye other ppls spindly horses.

This thread made me chuckle, one of the fastest I have ever galloped was a pony he was my first pony and a free lease...he was a 17 year old 14.2hh Arab/Australian pony/Stock Horse cross, boy oh boy he was a pocket rocket!! He loved to race, we raced Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds half his age and won most of the time, I swear I have never been propelled so fast on a horse as I was on him. :D

My mum's friend used to ride Daisy and i would be on Katey.
We would race each other.
Daisy is a 17.1hh TB ex-racer and Katey is a 14.2hh TBXDartmoor mare.
Guess who would win!
