Hi ,Im just treating all my fencing(wooden) at the moment. No need to go buy stinky creosote.Go to your local car garage and ask for some old used engine oil.they will gladly give you it for free.Use it to dip fence posts in prior to using and Its brilliant as a wood preservative and the fencing looks really posh.It does take a couple of days to sink in so make sure that your horses arent anywhere near until its dry as you will end up with a zebra!
P.S wear old clothes as it doesnt come out

If you mix the engine oil with paraffin** it gets absorbed better and is easier to apply. This mix is a traditional alternative for wood preserving.

That said, I rather like the smell of creosote!! :)

** They call this something else in the US - kerosine???
