First reall lesson at camp and we had an hour and a half lesson of w/t/c jumping WITHOUT STIRRUPS! we droped em after 5minutes of riding and didn't take em back the rest of the lessons! i hurt, but it was fun. i rode lydia, she has the choppyest, hardest gaits...not the kind that toss you in the air but the kind of hard gaits that are jolting. (if you get that).

Ouch. An hour and a half is a long time to go in an intense lesson! Hope you backside heals quickly ;)

This is very silly. Once your muscles get tired you are difficult for the horse to carry. Once your muscles tire you cannot control them so you have no hope in doing any good quality work.
Everything should be kept short and sweet and of good quality. S'no good going round and round revelling in the same mistake time after time because you are in pain, because if you are it won't be long before the horse will be.

I agree with Wally. It's strikes me of trying to generate a kind of bravado that cannot hold any substance for your or your horse. It is a counterproductive approach that I wish people would understand as such.

This is why work should be done little and often. You don't always notice the muscle damage until later on. The damage to your muscles has been done though as they are sore! You probably wouldn't have noticed them becoming less and less effective as the ride went on but they will have done.
