Hi

I have a great 6yo 16.1 ISH mare who is great in all ways except she seems to panic when it comes to comblinations!

she has a number of points gained with a previous owner so i know she has competed up to 1m level & gone clear at reg shows n this is what i want 2 do wit her.

She jumps single fences fine iv jumped her up to 1.10m but when it comes to doubles even if only 70cm she either jumpes in 2 big in runs out at the second or runs out at 1st. Iv put poles along the sides to keep her in & this does wrk but she is jus messy n going over the double is not smooth she jus flies as if she wants it over a quick as pos!

pse help as she has so much potentiol!

It sounds like you need to go right back to square one with it. What I'd do is put a pole on the ground and then a small jump and trot her over it all. Do that a few times and then raise the first pole ever so slightly so its a tiny jump. Keep doing that until the first is as big as the second and then raise the second and build up the first gradually until its as big, and do it that way. When she has the hang of it put a pole infront of the first jump again (to make a triple) and build it up. I know its boring but It should work, as it did with my young horse when I was bringing her into jumping combinations. Good luck! Let me know how it works out! :D

Lots of grid work to establish a rhythm. Start very low and if possible loose school her over it as well as ride.

Sounds like she needs her confidence building up!

Put up a jump and lunge her over it .. put it up tiny .. a small cross bar on 2 creates .. so she can trot it. After she's done this a few times, and changed rein, make it into a mini spread. Even if she's done higher before, go riiight back to basics, get the trotting poles out, let her find her balance going towards and build her confidence. Also free school and ride her over this.

Gradually build up .. but don't rush it! Take your time :) You'll know when she's ready to move up a few cm's when shes confidently going over the tiny spreads in trot and canter. Then build up and up .. slowly, ofcoarse. You could make a really low jump, but quite wide, or a higher jump, but not as ..

Do it to fit around her :)
