Just interested to know if anyone uses them, why they do, and if they help?
My horse is booked in with a new farrier next month so we can try him on NBS as his on off lame all the time due to very flat feet and his left fore is slightly twisted in.
My vet recommended this before we have xrays etc just incase its worse than she thinks.

PM Klebert, her OH is a barefoot and NBS farrier, she had them on one of her heavies to sort a problem, he's barfoot now I think once his problem was sorted.

My horse wears them, to prevent lameness and improve his way of going. They have helped enormously :D

My mare had them on last year as she needed something on her hooves that would prevent them waring down temporarily and her toe used to grow faster than the rest of the hoof and pull normal shoes off the heel. she is now barefoot again.

they are the only shoes that keep my mare sound. the trim keeps the toes short and the breakover point is slightly further back.
just make sure you get a true NB farrier and not one that uses imitation shoes. its the trim as much as the shoe that is important.

Joy has been in natural balance shoes but we have moved yards and I have decided to swap to the farrier the other livery uses to make things easier for us both time wise.
This farrier doesn't do natural balance shoes and I'll see how it affects Joy's way of going. If it doesn't suit I'll ask my old farrier to come out and do her.

Alex used to trip and over reach badly, with natural balance he walks perfectly fine and no over reching.

Can anyone tell me exactly what they look like? And would they help with Navicular? Someone was telling me today that they did so I am willing to try. My horse has been diagnosed with Navicular and side bone but I am not 100& convinced. He had X rays which showed signs of this but my farrier tells me it is common in horses of his age (14) and not necessarily the reason for lameness.
One of my friends said 'he had had it!' I don't want to give up on him yet.

The attachment is a fitting guide which shows you how they are fitted and what they look like. My horse was in them for a while and bringing the breakover back helped with her action and reduced her forging. I don't know if they would help with navicular or not, the most helpful thing with that seems to be to do away with the shoes altogether and get the feet back in to shape and functioning correctly.

Well he's got them on! And also got wedges in the front feet to raise him off the ground!
He's sound at last!

Etta's got NBS but only because her hoof wall quality is really poor, & they're the only shoes that stay on for 6 weeks :o
