Hi, I own a 4 year old PRE gelding who was just backed when I bought him earlier this year. He's been in work properly since May and is coming on nicely, hacks out in the lead and really quick to learn everything. The only thing which isn't progressing as quickly as other young horses I've worked with is his straightness. I just wondered if anyone else has experience with this breed and if they're all as 'wobbly' as mine!!

Oh I don't think it would be the breed .. I don't think I could judge a horse by their breed .. sure they'll have simluar charatceristics .. but not all the same.

He's only 4 .. keep going nice a slow. He's prob still finding his balance on the straight .. keep it fun :)

I have just started reading a book straightness in horses and it does actually say that Andalusian and other classical breeds often have straightness problems and there was a reason but I cant rememeber why :D I will have to have a look later and let you know.

What's the book you're reading there, atillathefun ? Is it any good ? Do you recommend it ?

That would be reassuring if there was a reference to it in a book, wouldn't think it was just me imagining it!

Its called Correct Movement in Horses, Improving straightness and Balance.

I ordered it from a book club and when it arrived its not at all what I expected it is more about correcting straightness problems with a particular method of training that the author uses.

I have found it usefull to make me more aware of crookedness that may be present and problems they can cause but the way it is written I have found to be very opiniated and it gets on its soap box quite a lot :D

I suppose if you wanted a training programme to help to straighten a crooked horse then its a good book but if your looking for a book about correct movement (as in the title) I dont think its very good as there are many things associated with correct movement not just crookedness.

I will have a look at lunch time and see what it says about the Andi's and let you know.
