View Full Version : Lacey driving me to the prom -thoughts?-

Okie dokie..This is just a like very very early stages idea, but it's my year 11 prom next June or sometime around then..And instead of hiring a limo or something, I thought maybe Lacey could drive me?

She has been broken in to drive, but I've never seen any proof. I'd obviously need to bring her somewhere so someone can try a harness on her, and if she seems okay, then someone else to try and drive her or something, as I don't have a clue!

I'd want someone else to drive her and then me to sit there and look all fancy in my pretty dress -laughs-

I imagine it'd be pretty pricey, so just looking into it. I don't think it'd be dark, and she's bombproof in traffic, though do you think she'd be too excitable? She only rears when shes major hyper, like xc schooling or gymkarn games, so I think its highly unlikely she'd do that, but would have to see how she is in practise first...

Any ideas how I'd go about it?
Basically I suppose first I'd need to box her somewhere for someone else to see if she remembers the harness ect, and take her for a few practise runs, then that person to bring the cart and harness (and themselves) over to a mile/ half a mile away from where the prom is as it'd be too far straight from my yard.

Any advice welcome, I've got no clue about driving!

By the way, she's a 14.2/3hh welsh cob if it helps.

:p I think it'd be well cool, and trust me to try and rope my baby into one of the most major nights of my life.

She's pulling my wedding carriage too :P

Would be a lovely idea! I dream that Kai will drive me to my wedding when I finally get round to it!

You may be lucky and he may simply accept it.. I would get on with long reining etc introduce harness, and progress onto pulling a weight ( ie log etc). If all goes well introduce a trap and take it from there. Its certainly possible but I would introduce everything on the idea its all new to her until you know for sure shes happy with it. I would say it will take a lot of work over winter!

Where abouts are you btw?

I'm in Berkshire.

I'll try long reining her over the weekend and see how she does with that, but will see if there is someone more experienced to do actual introducing to harness and driving, as she has done it (apparantly) so fingers crossed it wouldn't be teaching her from scratch.

Does anyone know where I can find someone who would do this? (figure I need to travel to their yard as bringing it all over would be a bit much)

Thanks :D

It's a fantastic idea. I would agree to finding an experienced driver to quickly run through all the training stages to find out if she does drive. Hubby and I run a Carriage driving company and were recently asked if we would drive some people to their Proms in a donkey carriage! Good luck.
