A friend of a friend has this little mare, she is apparantly no bigger than 36 inch high at the very most. She doesn't know what her breeding is, a nearby miniature breeder has suggested to her nf x shetland? What do you think? I thought she might be bigger with a cross like that:confused: Would also be fascinated to hear how her colouring would be described? Is it as simple as roan? Is she a funny appaloosa? Is there silver dapple in there? Thank you in advance for any help!:)

Varnish Roan?
Absolutely not silver dapple.
As for breed <Bigshrug>
Could be something like British Spotted Pony, Dartmoor Hill Pony (the occasional spottie turns up there) although I agree that the face does have a Foresty look about it. I think I have seen an Arab cross Shetland once but that was about 11 hh.

she does look cute and when i worked at adealers they used to breed little spotted things and she look similar in type to them they were mainly british spotted ponies x shetland or american miniture horse or tiny welsh A's x miniture horse. they were all about 36" max. will try and dig out some pics.
I don't know what her 'official' colour would be but she does seem to have some spotted tendancies

She has appy in her that is for sure... pretty mare and at 36" at most puts her only 1" taller than my Miniature horses.
There are purebred miniature horses out there with Appy coloring.
Knowing there are mostly AMHA registered mini's over there and they have to stay under 34" in that Registry.. think you just have an over sized miniature horse.
Her coloring looks like my son's only Silver bay roan mare...
So I would call yours a "Silver Bay Roan Appy".
Why.. because she is shedding out like a color changer, ie roan, her silveryish mane and tail, bit darker lower legs...and all the appy spots all over her.
She doesn't look like anything else the others have mentioned.

she looks to be a snowflake appaloosa (colouring).
She could be a British spotted, they are frequently that size.

Just to show you there are others with strange and wonderful coloring out there.
Here's my son's (when he was young) Silver dapple Bay roan mare. Of course the dapples only showed up in summer. Pictures where taken in different seasons. Her mane and tail was a almost white silvery color which is hard to see in the pictures this small.
Still kick myself for selling her.
