Is the right rein generally more difficult or is it just me? I don't know why but for some reason I find it easy on the left rein but it is more difficult to keep to straight lines and work into the corners of the school on the right rein. I don't know if it is down to what I do, down to any issues my horse may have or if it is a general thing. Hm. Does anyone have any tips to stop my horse feeling like she can cut corners etc?

My horse lunges/long reins better on the left rein too so I start with that and then when she is warmed up a bit a swap over to the right rein. Once she is going ok then I do allsorts and don't tend to think too much about what rein I am on. Bad mum that I am! :p

I don't find I have a "better" rein long reining....

I do find that long reining magnifies any issues I have under saddle. So for example, fidgeting in halt. Hadn't really come up under saddle - came up long reining, and then went to a clinic and realised I was fudging it under saddle and we weren't getting proper halts

So: what you see in long reining... is there anything like that showing up under saddle ? It may be that you are correcting all the time with leg when riding, but long reining that goes away so the problem comes back ?

[It is not that you should not correct when riding - but you need to work to get the horse to correct itself, to become straighter, rather than riding with the correction going the whole time ?]

The cutting corners may be that your horse struggles on that rein to flex around the corner ?
