After may false starts (ie foot and mouth causing cancellations OR the flamin weather - caused today's show to be cancelled) we are DEF taking our 5 yr old daughter and her pony to a show next Saturday
its inside and no sheep or cattle on site so we are def going to be going!!!
I need tips on getting the pony whiter than white - especially his tail (for pony with nicest tail)
All tips gratefully received. He was due to go to a show today but it was mini lead rein jumping so I didn't need him sparkly white, just white! next week we need him so white you need glasses to look at him :D

I start about a week before. Every day wash off all stains thoroughly, to be honest usually with Tesco cheap shampoo or washing up liquid. Some can take days to shift properly. Do tail daily as well, but use conditioner on it. If the tail is badly stained try stain remover, vanish or my friend swears by Daz. When its dry put it in a loose plait and if possible in a tail bag to stop it getting dirty again. (you can turnout like this too) It can take some time to get tails clean.
On the day, treat any stains with stain remover then bath all over at least 2 lots of shampoo. For final rinse water use something like Supreme blue powder (dont use much) or old fashioned dolly blue. Brings them up sparkling blue white.
If your still not happy with the result then you will have to resort to chalk powder or paste. The paste need time to dry but does stay on better. Johnsons baby powder is great for tails. Make sure you brush it out well before going in the ring.
Good luck

thanks for that
I have tried plaiting but it was only the day before and then all the wave is gone within an hour
I'll try it all week - hopefully he will stay wavy then!
what is dolly blue????

Dolly Blue is I think what they used to use to get net curtains white. :p

:D LOL I didn't mean plait it to make it wavy, though it probably will. Its to keep it cleaner, it makes it a bit shorter and less likely to get new poo stains.

 now I feel silly
someone on the yard suggested putting some vanish into a plastic bag and then tying it onto his tail bottom for 20 minutes each day to whiten the ends
I did wash his tail today and gave it a good condition and it does look nicer than it did on Saturday
Mind you, little monkey did a big poo in the menage, as normal, and managed to get it all down his legs and his tail - wouldn't mind but he doesn't have runny botty so how on earth he managed that I have NO idea
