Hello,
Sorry if this is in the wrong thread please move it if it is.
I'm getting a 15h m/w cob nearly 6yrs old
At the moment she has shoes on all four because her owners say if she dont have them on her feet flake. Is this normal i havent had a horse before that has had shoes.

Do you think i should find some foot hardner for her and get her shoes taking off? Where she is going to go there is a rubber school and miles of off road hacking there is no need for her to go on a road and the field is right next to her stable and the school is to.

Please what do you think i should do? I want the mares best interest

thank you for reading :D

Best thing to do is to get a good farrier to look at her feet and give an opinion (preferably one who isn't anti barefoot!). Feet do 'flake' and crack up to the nail holes when shoes are removed and get raggy around the edges if not trimmed more regularly when on hard, dry, summer ground. Maybe the previous owners didn't know that, or maybe she does need shoes.

Anyway, an expert opinion from someone who can examine the feet would be the best place to start :)
