Not sure if this is the right place for this?!
Question in the title really. I only intend to use it for shows and events as he's fine at home. Tried Temprelax and it really helped but made him quite dopey and lazy with his feet even though i gave him what it said to give him.
Any suggestions?
:)

Can you feed it say a few days beforehand and it work for the day you want or does it have to be fed every day?

Give them 72 hours worth of supplement, so that's 3 days in advance, plus 2 hours before you plan to ride them on the day it's most needed for. :)

Well I bought some today from the tackshop at work (10% discount :D) and it was £20....so that would make it £22? (haha, such a discount I get :p)
But that's for a tub that lasts us one scoop a day for about 6 weeks.

So-Kalm syringe. 3 doses in each syringe, about £13. Made by Equine America. Brilliant stuff, only takes 1-2 hours to work and lasts a good 1/2 day.

I only use calmer for clipping or shows and NAF magic works really well on my girl.
However, on my friends horse the NAF Magic didn't work at all so she introduced him to a product by Global Herbs product. I can;t remember what its called at the moment but I'll check tonight for you :)
Anyway, its entirely natural and hes doing really well on it!
I guess its just trial and error to find whats right for your horse :)

If you know Temprelax works then I'd just use a lower dose!

Epsom salts! Mag calm etc are all based on magnesium and epsom salts provide this in a much cheaper way! Just a pinch a day works wonders!

So-Kalm syringe. 3 doses in each syringe, about £13. Made by Equine America. Brilliant stuff, only takes 1-2 hours to work and lasts a good 1/2 day. I also really rate So-Kalm, although I suggest So-Kalm plus (newer version) which includes magnesium. The main ingrediant in the product is L-Tryptophan. This (unlike most of the supplements we use for horses) has good scientific research showing its efficacy. It increases Seratoinin (neuro-chemical which plays a central role in depression and anxiety) in various species. It was first used for anxiety and depression in humans which is why its been properly researched.
I used it when I first started to take my mare out and about. Interestingly though, she didn't respond short term to the paste, so I used a dose of the powder in her evening feed for two days before I took her out and she was very settled and happy on it. Also she has her last season of the year in October and her first and last season of the year tend to leave her feeling a bit hyper-alert and distracted. She went into it last week. I popped the powder in her feed and she chilled right out :)

If you are feeding magnesium oxide or epsom salts or whatever, what is the correct dosage for a 16.1hh horse (TB). I have got some but want to make sure don't overdose him as i know can be bad for the heart.
