does it exist in a more grainy form? or better still a liquid?

im sure i remember a thread with someone who couldnt get their hoss to eat it cause it was a coarse powder but i cant find it now... j has gone funny about eating it, i think because its so fine and sticks to everything. plus half of it blows away before it hits the feed

You can get calmag which isn't as refined and is a lot coarser

Which Mag Ox have you got, light or heavy? The heavy stuff needs feeding in much smaller quantities, I suspect from your description that's not the one you've got :) Some horses are less fussy about Calmag, but you don't know until you try, it's an awful lot cheaper though (£8-10 for 25kg).

it was off ebay - its a very fine white powder like flour i suppose, but probably even finer. im always covered in it after ive made his feeds up and people suspect jr has a bit of an addiction 'problem' especially when he dissapears round the back with a rolled up tenner:p

theres no way he would eat the 4g to 100kg of weight that it says to feed, he has a fair bit but not the full dose.

is calmag any different for feets?

thanks guys, as always!

Not a lot - it's meant to be slightly more difficult for them to absorb though, as its less pure.

I use cal mag, it does i admit look like chunky sand lol but you need more as its only about 50%magnesium although cheaper.

Ought to clarify that you need more by weight rather than volume. One 15ml scoop of calmag contains nearly as much available magnesium as a 25ml scoop of heavy magox or 50ml of the light stuff.

its all so ruddy complicated - cant he just survive on mcdonalds and kit kats like me?!

but at least the dosage would be in fingers rather than grams per kilo of hoss ;)

LOL! Wouldn't do anything for their feet:eek: BTW all of the above would give you round about 10g per day of magnesium which seems to be a reasonable starting point for the average horse.

thanks yann :)

sod his feet now, ive had enough, we're going for the simple life - whatever i eat, he'll have the same! :D

i do sometimes wonder why i spend so much time worrying about what he eats, making sure hes clean, that his bed is wonderfully tidy etc etc

then i get in my filthy, messy car, pick up some rubbish take away and by the time ive eaten that i'm too tired to shower :o

i hope he appreciates it!

now, whilst on the suject of magox fine powder stuff - how much actually IS 4g? In terms of 15ml (25ml or 50ml) scoops?

when i weighed it out a while back, it was j needed roughly 3 heaped scoops - the scoop is from equimins seaweed and rosehip but i have no idea how big it is. and the scales were rubbish :o:o

so really, i have no clue :o

i also realised this morning that i brush the shavings off j before he goes out - WHY?!?! hes not going to get laughed at for having shavings in his tail, but i do when i turn up in the staffroom with them in my hair.

Working back the maths for the quants and volumes I previously posted you'd want about 15ml of light magox for 4g of available magnesium, or 9ml for 4g of the bulk powder as the active mag is 60% of the total. Halve the quants for heavy mag ox. Think this lot is correct anyway:p

Hi
I feed Magox heavy. I have brill digital scales so weighed out 4g then found a (kitchen! ) scoop to fit! I feed only 8g and my horse is 16.2. I did double it to see what happened and he was zombied!!!! ...back to 8g!
I dissolve it in water and then add to feed.

LOL, mine have never zombied no matter how much mag they've had, perhaps that's his true personality lurking :D
