My youngster has taken to nipping (not biting, just little nips)
when I tighten her girth (although she's always done that)
when I try and mount
when I turn my back on her.
Its a jovial nip because she can, not aggresive, but how can I stop her. Saying NO or STOP IT has no effect, she knows she's not supposed to do it. Obviously I don't want to hit her, but I don't have eyes on the back of my head and it hurts! How can I stop her doing it?

Anyone else have a similar problem?

If you dont like giving her a smack then you could try what i do with my pony and that is smack my boot with a crop and say NO and raise your finger and point at them.

My pony knows now that having a finger pointed at him means no and responds to it - if he trys to nip i point my finger at him and say no and he stops... or sometimes he call's my bluff and pricks his ears and sniff's at my finger as if butter wouldnt melt! gotta love 'em! :D

Since she only does it when being girthed and mounted, is their something maybe wrong with her saddle fit? Maybe it's her back that's sore? Worth looking into!

I follow a monty roberts tenique. When the horse bites gives the horse a dunt on the leg (with a brush or lightly with your foot). The horse eventually begins to associate biting with a pain in there leg.

I did this with maverick and being a comic like himself when he bit he pulled his leg backwards. i have all the luck with him.
