Hi I have just forund New Rider, where have I been you must wonder. I am finding it very interesting and educational, but unfortunately have not found anything to help me on my horse. He is 18 years old 15.2 hh TB X, has had laminitis in the past, lives out, not rugged but a lovely warm shelter instead, and has constantly got a runny bottom. His diet is very high fibre based(hence my problem), to keep him full as he is restricted with his grass, and bucket food wise he gets a mix of happy hoof, high fi lite and a little bran (x2 feeds a day) and 4 large haynets over the 24 hr period. He get a walk out once a week, nothing too strenuous! I would like to change his feed to alleviate this awful problem, but am concerned doing so as I want his occupied otherwise I fear mischief, and unsure what to replace the bucket food with. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

A friend of mine had a horse with awful bowels!! Sadly in its past it had suffered a very bad worm burden and it caused extensive damage. However the horse was happy and healthy, just made an awful mess!

What she did try was probiotic yogurts added to her feed, which did make quite a difference ( had 1/2 small tub morning n evening)

This was passed by the vet so always wise to double check first before trying anything new x

Have you tried feeding him Kaolin supplement? It binds everything up and helps stop the runs. Its just a white powder that gets mixed in with normal feed. Hope that helps!

Mine has a terrible tum - probably due to a bad worm infesation before I GOT HER.

If she's in a bad way I keep her of f the grqss for a few days, give loads of hay (not hayledge).

If she's no better the vet can give a cortisone powder called preddy which settles down her tunm.

HAVE you tried pre/probiotic supplements. They don't work for us, but have heared they they are successful for lot of horses.
