Has anybody on here had experience of doing Reiki courses to qualify to treat horses?
I'm really at a loose end as i'm off work sick at the moment and wont be returning in the near future.
I'm thinking of it as a career option as i dont seem to have much luck working for other people! And i really want to work with animals.
Any points, hints, experiences would be very much appreciated.
Thanks for reading :)

my YO is a qualified reiki master. I can ask her tomorrow about where she trained etc (It is something I have been meaning to ask her anyway as it is something I would like to train in) I think it is quite expensive to train but I don't know. Will get as much info as I can and PM you:)

Some of these may help, although word of mouth recommendation is always good :-)
My pony seems to enjoy Reiki the few times I've used it on him.

Yes, I am, oddly enough, qualified in the reiki thing. PM me for details.

Yes! i do, although i'm not strictly qualified to treat horses BUT if a friend loans me their horse for the purpose of training/gaining experience and understands that then i can take a look at them.
I did my reiki degree level 1 in feb/march of this year. My reiki master also does sports massage/reiki/rolfing on horses so as part of the level 1 course she included an equine part to the training. Be aware that not all people do this, and prices for level 1 and 2 vary wildly! i paid about £100 for the level 1 course but i've seen some people charging several hundred (my master paid £650 for her level 1 ).
There are more stringent controls on 'alternative' therapists treating horses than there are on those treating humans. I can (and do) give many reiki sessions on friends, have built up quite a client base! but as i said until i've done level 2/more advanced training i can't strictly 'treat' other horses.
Reiki i find very relaxing, and it's also made me a much more confident person especally in my riding. I'm hoping (one day) to combine it with saddle fitting and maybe equine shiatsu? that's something else i've been looking into learning. Good luck! I would ask around your local area, see if any of the horse therapists do reiki/are reiki masters and could possible organise some training for you :)

Try www.healinghorses.co.uk. I did my reiki for horses training with Jan (she is based in the Cotswolds) and would recommend her

I am a healer/Reiki master too, I suppose you call it Reiki although I call it heart healing or intuitive healing as I work with angels and not strictly what is known as Reiki here in Denmark (I never use the symbols as I have no need for it).
I hope you find a good place, Emma_H - word of advice for you, go for what feels right to you and if possible, have a session scheduled with the teacher (in a treatment) so you know if you "click" with the person, cos some of the things that come up in the training can be very personal, so it is important that you trust the teacher you have. The best of luck!
Oh and edited to say - good on you for wanting to do this!!

your hand positioning is different, and obviously health and safety is paramount. You also have to approach your equine subjects carefully. Some just don't want to know so you don't treat them. a basic level 1 will not qualify you to treat equines. You really need practisioners level and to make sure you have insurance etc. We had it reitterated that we could not go out and practise as an equine reiki therapist after doing the equine training attached to level 1. As i mentioned, if a friend volunteered a horse and understood it was for training purposes then that's ok. I'm guessing the course you are doing is similar, it will only qualify you to do your own pets.

yes people and pets. i only want to do it for myself really no interest in doing it on other people , well family maybe.. i would like to use it on my pony, so i think i would do the 1st degree then the 2nd later on. i need to look into it more as i don't really understand it. the master said it didnt matter?
