ok, so i only got one reply when i posted this on another forum.
I will try here. Basically, whats the best supplement/ balancer to use for my 2 horses.
Ones a 14.3 good doer, the other a 7mth old shetland. Both at grass/ in at night.
Can you use something like baileys lo cal balancer for a shettie?

Baileys lo cal would be a good option for the 14.3. For the baby, the lo cal might not be high enough in protein for a growing youngster ( i may be wrong though!!)

My 4 month good doer filly is on dodson horrell's Suregrow, which is a stud balancer ( baileys do one too). Theyre designed, like the lo cal, to be fed in very small quantities, so less worry about weight gain.

Hope this helps!!

im with poniesrule on this one! suregrow is brilliant, my little one was on it but shes not so little anymore! some of the feed merchants have helplines where you can get some brilliant advice form nutritionalists.

Thanks, the shetland was on a stud mix but i took her off it as i was told its too rich for a shettie, and the same was said about baileys stud balancer?

Dont know if this is right but they said its designed for TB type foals not natives?

ah that could be true! my girl is tb. best thing to do would be to ring d&h helpline as they can recommend the best thing for you. i did a project on this when i was at college (way back) but i might be able to find it and get you the numbers although its prob written on the feed bags.
