How do you start?I was thinking of using it on snowy to help calm him so I can show him people arn't that scary.Ive seen a book about it for horse and riders on The Equestrian Book Society but they dont have this month:(.
I found a few websites and was thinking of using:gorse , larch and mimulus
would that be right?

thanks in advance

If I were you, I'd get in touch with a vet who uses alternative treatments. It's very unsafe asking people on a board such as this. They are not veterinary trained nor medically trained in any way.

Try contacting the Bach Society- they will be able to recommend a trained person who will be much more accurate. However I have often used them without a therapist as they are safe- the site shoudl have some good books on there too. Can't comment on your selection as I don't know enough about the issue. Would also recommend trying one at a time though so you know which one is effective and saves money!

Try either of these- the first one will also help you with choosing a remedy although it is geared to humans-not sure how much it affects things. Good luck

My girlfriend uses Bach Flower remedies professionally. She has a course coming up, but its in Somerset so probably a bit far for you. We're currently writing a distance course though.

She has some old stock books that she's got on ebay at the moment.

Let me know if you want any details.

Ive got a good book called ' BACH FLOWER REMEDIES FOR HORSES & RIDERS'.
It tells you everything you need to know.
I use rescue remedy for spookiness, and rock rose for real bad spookiness.

I sometimes use rescue remedy on my mare for hacking alone as she can be quite spooky, although it seems to work a little too well, she trolls along like a donkey.

I would have a trained therapist make up a mixture for you and, if wanting to do it myself, I'd take a course on how to use it. But that is just my opinion.

By British law only vets are allowed to prescribe a horse remedies such as the Bach Flower ones. In reality no-one takes any notice and buys a book, some remedies, and they are away. Have a search on Amazon for Bach horse books, I'm sure there are a few decent ones out there.

I use Rescue Remedy myself (a mixture of Rock Rose, Impatiens, Clematis, Star of Bethlehem and Cherry Plum according to my bottle!) and used to use it for my rescue dog.

Owners are perfectly allowed to apply Bach Flower Remedies (which, incidentally, are completely harmless and can't be used negatively unless the alcohol preservative is a problem). But more worryingly, owners are legally permitted to use other modalities such as essential oils which can have negative effects. They are allowed to use these at their discretion, with no prerequisite for any knowledge or training, all completely within the law - but the qualified practitioner is not allowed to 'prescribe' which in my opinion makes a mockery of the law.

Practitioners are allowed to advise and recommend remedies to owners who can then administer themselves. They are also allowed to provide the remedies to the owner. They are also allowed within the law to demonstrate application of the remedies. If the animal is in the care of the practitioner, the owner can also instruct the practitioner to administer on their behalf.

Practitioners must request the permission of the primary care giver (the vet) to visit and work with the horse. This is applicable to anybody - back person, massage, etc. They should all write to the vet to get permission to work with the horse. This is 99.99% a formality as I have never known any vet to say no. But the owner should administer themselves on the advice of the practitioner.

It may sound like legal technicality to advise rather than prescribe, but that's law for you :-) My girlfriend is qualified with the British Institute of Homeopathy to practice Bach Flower Remedies and she works with horses in this manner completely within the law.

I would love to try these on my mare, she is very hot headed and although brilliant at what she does, if she lands wrong after a jump she will get very upset and will rush the rest of the course, becoming more and more upset.
Does anyone have any idea's on which one to use?:)

I swear by rescue remedy for myself and also give it to Arnie. He gets his on a bit of carrot and takes it happily (despite me thinking it tastes rotten!).

It just chills him out and takes the edge off him slightly:)

There used to be someone on here who worked with Bach flower remedies and she made some up for me for one of my dogs. If you do a search for posts by Flowergirl - her website was in her signature. She's not posted for a while, but I'm assuming that her website is still active.

She doesn't post here anymore. But you can get her at www.holisticequine.co.uk or www.bachflowerremedies.net
