hi, i have a welsh colt and am going to try and license him as a stallion in the new year along with registering with the WPCS.
I was just wondering if i am allowed to register a foal if it by my own mare without him being licensed? someone said he only needs a license if i am covering visiting mares.

i am pretty certain he has to be licenesed for ANY progeny to be registered, doing my boys in the new year as well:D

He has to be licenced to have progeny registered. Licence costs £120 from WPCS, plus vet fees to come and inspect him. Ideally he should have been licenced before covering anything (sorry but I don't believe in using unlicenced colts when there are so many unregistered Welshies around already) but as long as he's licenced when you apply to register the foal it's ok.

Sorry - have just noticed you say you want to register him as well as licence him... does that mean he's not registered with WPCS? If so, first you'll have to register him; if you don't have relevant paperwork (like the covering certificate) that'll be near impossible. You might also have to provide DNA testing to prove parentage.
If you can't register and licence him, please, please cut him. There are so many Welshies for sale with full passports that to breed unregistered stock is a terrible shame and really shouldn't be done.

Have to agree with Chev on this one.
At £40 per DNA test, plus all the back fees for registration it's a very costly business. You'll need 3 DNA tests one from each parent and one from him. If they all match you then need to apply to the Society, so unless he's top notch material you might find you have paid a lot more in fees than he's worth to sell.

You cant register any offspring he produces without.
A..The stallion being registered and Licensed
B.. Being a member of WPCS
C..Having a Prefix
If your mare is in foal this is very irresponsible of you!!!
Unless this colt is really true to type, can be licensed and registered...FOR GODSAKE GET IT CASTRATED.

You're right that you do need registration, licence, DNA tests and WPCS membership, but a prefix is not neccessary if the breeder doesn't have one. If you are trying to register a colt you have bought, he must be registered with the breeder's pefix; the application form must be signed by both breeder and owner.
