Hi,
I have been asked by another girl at my yard if I want to go with her to a competition and participate. It is just an Intro Test in Walk and Trot with two half circles and two 2om circles. Don't know if I am definately going to go yet, but want to make sure I have the stuff anyway.
I have never competed before and therefore don't really have the equipment required.
I know I have to have the riding jacket (will probably be navy) and long back riding boots, but what else do I need. I will have to buy a white Saddlepad, but I was wondering if Tyler has to wear white bandages. He requires brushing boots, so I would prefer to use bandages if allowed.
Are we permitted to use a martingale/breastplate? He is ridden in a snaffle, so not worried about that.

no bandages, but I'm guessing since this is intro you can get away with the boots.
In recognised dressage shows you aren't allowed to wear either bandages or boots of any kind.
Since this isn't (at least it doesn't sound like it) recognised you can wear the extra equipment, and probably don't even have to worry about the white pad if you already have something that is solid colored and looks nice with the saddle.

You;Jacket(black, blue or tweed) with shirt and tie or shirt with stock, GLOVES (often forgotten leading to elimination), hat, long boots ot short boots with matching coloured plain chaps(no frills or tassles).
Horse: saddle, bridle, numnah(plain solid colour), breastplate allowed but no martingale attachment, various types of snaffle bit, flash, cavesson or drop but no grackles allowed if under BD rules.
Hope that helps.

Thank you.
It isn't affiliated/recognised so dont need to worry about that. Going to have a proper look at everything for the test tomorrow and decide then if I go for it or not.
Thanks for the advice guys.

afarid i don't agree with that statement as far as the uk goes , most unaffiliated venues tend to use BD rules , i have not yet come across one that allows 'extra equipment' in terms of say boots or martingales that Bd do not allow
also under bd rules the saddle pad or numnah does not have to be white anyway , just any 'discrete' colour
a call to the organiseres would clarify for definate though:)

I agree with Andrea - I would call the organisers and check. My yard runs regular unaff dressage comps, everything is very friendly and supportive and they are not fussed about things like riders wearing black suede chaps instead of gaiters but they ARE strict on horse equipment. I was allowed to take the Big Horse in the Walk/Trot test in his 3-ring snaffle, but he wasn't allowed to have it in the Prelim tests.
I certainly wouldn't run out and buy a white saddle pad just for this test. unless you really want to of course. You are not allowed any boots or bandages in the test. Breastplates are OK, martingales are absolutely not.
Give the organisers a quick ring and double-check. Very best of luck if you do go !

im doing a riding club wlk trot test and we are not allowed boots but you can wear them for warming up, just remember to take them off before you go in. ;)
Id just wear your normal saddle cloth if you want, but if you want to dress up why not, its all part of the fun (thats what im doing, thinking if we look like we are dressage pro's we might act like them :o:D)
You can take a stick in with you as well i think, i know i can take one into mine.

Hope that helps. Jane has given you the run down except that your horse can't wear boots or bandages if the competition is run under British Dressage rules. Many, if not most, unaffiliated competitions are run under the rules.
Enjoy it :)
