Hi all,
i have taken my new horse to the vets and after x-rays they have found that she has a small chip off her sesamoid bone, combined with a tendon injury and she also has recent non-articular ringbone on her pedal bone.
The vet has prescribed 4 weeks of box rest (the original injury happened about 4 months ago (tendon injury) and she has been having injections (cartrophen i think...) her lameness improved but just hasnt gone or improved any more in the last 6weeks. she is having Enelbin paste put on the affected area everyday and she is on Danillon for the next 3 weeks.
What i am wondering is - Are there any supplements that would help her? or anything really! i have been told that Apple Cider Vinegar is good, anything else - herbal or supplements!
Many thanks
Julie

Firstly, good luck for her recovery - I know what a pain it can be :( A gelding I look after has similar problems...
Arthiritus
Ringbone
Splints
Tendon Injury
All in all, OUCH!
Apple Cider Vinegar is definetly worth trying :D
MSM and Glucosamine are also good supplements, you can get supplements that have both in - I think Cortaflex and Super Solvitax do :)
Good luck!
Laura.

Hi
I have started feeding her Superflex (i used to feed this to my other mare so i had some left over) and Apple Cider Vinegar.
Someone at the yard has recommended Forever Freedom. Will it be detrimental feeding this in addition to the Superflex as i understand they contain similar things (MSM, Glucosamine & Chondroitin). If Aloe Vera is as good as some people say then would it be more sensible putting some aloe vera in her feed instead of the Forever Freedom liquid?
many thanks

I've not heard of Forever Freedom so I don't know what's in it, but there's really no point in throwing loads of supplements at your horse. Find one and stick to it. I feed my horse (tendon injury and cartilage problems) on Superflex, and she's never moved as well before! I like Superflex as it not only has glucosamine and chondroitin in, but also MSM. Herbal supplements and things such as apple cider vinegar should be ok to feed alongside more "chemical" supplements though, and ACV is generally recommended for a lot of things so could improve general health and wellbeing too.
Good luck with your horse, I know how hard tendon injuries can be from having my mare, and my share horse was also diagnosed this year with spavins in both hocks, a curb on one knee and a damaged check ligament in the other foreleg. It's not been a good year, but my lot are all slowly healing so I hope yours does too!
