Just trying to work out what sort of max weight you would put on my chap. As a future thought, or for visitng friends etc.
He's a 132h realtively fit 5 year old NF, so you'd expect native hardiness, but his legs look quite little to me, then again, its not really my area of expertise.

He has a relatively lightweight saddle (leather top synthetic bottom) but I reckon still a stone and half for that and riding hat/boots etc.

It's hard to tell with his rug on, do you have any better pictures? If not going on that one I would have said 10stone aprox as his legs do look fine, but I can't see the rest of him ;)

His weight-carrying ability would also be limited to his age. At 5, I wouldn't want anyone too heavy on him as he's still growing, got filling out to do and will do nothing for his jointed at such a young age :)

I know, not got any recent ones on my pc though (OH is IT buff and likes to tinker, which resulted in camera not connecting), and the old ones he's just a big fat blob.
Shandy, are you saying rider weight of 10 or overall?

Hold on, turns out it wasn't plugged (for 3 whole months) Adding new photos as we speak.
I know he's still young, but he has (I think) just about done filling out. He hasn't grown height wise in over a year and has filled out as much as I think he will now we are just currently working on coverting from fat to muscle .

That's what I thought about Bramble (13.3hh NF) yet she's shot up at her quarters this last week or so  can't wait to see the recent pics he looks very handsome, I was saying rider weight really :) just a guess though without seeing overall conformation

he's quite upright behind so I will stick with my original estimate, Bramble can happily carry 11 stone plus tack for miles but I have had a 13stone person ride her for 1/2hr and she really felt that and at 5 it's not something I would regularly want to do

Awwww, little fuzzy wuzzy:D
I'm a little over 10st and I wouldn't put myself on him. He would probably be fine with me for a while but he wouldn't find it easy. So no more than 10st.

Can I clarrify what you mean by 'upright behind' not a dig or a complaint, its just conformation is really not something I understand very well and trying to get my head round it.

I'm not good at conformation myself, but he has similar hind legs to Bramble, not much of a bend at the hock or the fetlock, it can make it harder for them to pull and carry weight (don't tell Bramble ;)) so I have been told :)

He's lovely, he looks like a younger, slimmer (and less hairy) version of my share pony, Ace.:)
To be on the safe side I'd go with the 10 stone max mark.

I'd put 10.5- 11 stone MAX on him as hes only a baby and still growing and filling out. I wouldn't say he is particularly light for a new forest, so perhaps when he is older he could carry a small amount more (half a stone ish). :D My four year old was of a slightly heavier build for the breed, and I put 11stone on him. You have to take into account the weight of tack and clothing etc as well.

I would also say about a maximum of 10 stone as he looks to be quite a fine forester compared to some.....he is gorgeous though:p

Well, it appears I was wrong. Looking back at the photos he seemed somewhat larger than before and I measured him today, and I don't own a 13.2hh pony. It appears he DID still have growing to do and I reckon he's gained at least a good inch (plus some thicker shoes) and measured today at nearly 14hh :o
Equally, I'll admit, I was worrying that he was going to start struggling to carry me (hint never byu a small pony when you are still recovering from anorexia-doh) but given that today he managed two full out gallops when I couldn't stop and a 1/2 mile canter up hill I stopped worrying!
