Ok.. Now i've sorted out what i have to wear.. I've just realised that i have no clue what i'd put her in! She's not M+M, hunter, sports horse and I very much doubt her breed will have its own classes at local shows, so what do i do??

She'll be 18 months to 2 years of age when i plan to get her out and have a go, what can i put her in? Are there just youngstock classes?? I only want to have a go and get her out at some shows so she learns to behave in that sort of environment, so i dont care if she is the only horse of that type in the ring!! But i would have no idea what to put her in...

Sorry for the dumb questions!

our local shows have potential ride and drive classes that any horse can enter, they also run "any other recognised breed" classes.

sometimes, yes there are any-breed youngstock classes. there are also plenty of novelty classes -best turned out, prettiest mare, pony the judge would most like to take home - that kind of thing is perfect for miles on the clock purposes, as long as you accept you will probably be put below all the kids in the class!

Oh, ok.. Would i be able to ask the secretary or soemthing what i could enter?? Would they know?

if you have a particular show in mind, you can always post the potential class names on here and i am sure we can help.

And we'll certainly be below the kids in Turnout classes as im fairly sure they will turnout to a better standard than me!!lol I just want to do lots where Una will get looked at, and preferably trotted up as in "proper" showing..

The best classes I did with my youngsters were in hand colour classes got a 3rd and a 2nd and also did best condition classes same result, it gave them practice of standing up and trotting up etc and was good fun too :)

I would go for Youngstock and Condition classes. Friesians are getting more popular here so you never know we might get Friesian classes in the future. I absolutely adore Friesians and have major regrets now about selling my youngster!

you can put her in prettiest mare condition and turn out
young handler, 4yrs and under mares or sometimes they combined

there a load of shows that do local low keyed stuff to get a horse started with ring expreince- and remeber this ok it doesnt matter where you come
ok so dont get up set if not place becuase the object of the exercise is to get out and to as many things as possiable and that all the things she does go to wether she wins or not - the main thing is you tried and hte uppermost thing is
you have acommplished many thing s

like loading- standing quitely, moving around with other horses
getting used to the atmostphere, the hussle and bussle of a show the banging of a loo door, the kids daritng around etc

so many things she learning as well as ring expreince but the whole excitement of a show in itself - that my freind is one very valued lesson so have you won in the ring maybe not but you sure have with everything else then whens shes broke and being ridden in a ridden show when you on her back going showing or x/c she will have no fear and be competely at ease with it all

look , for local shows in pegusus or hoof beat local riding clubs and pony clubs have shows all low keyed and all sorts of classes

in - hand young stock-
condition and turn out
child handler
young handler
in hand cob type over 14hh
prettiest mare
in hand working hunter pony/horse
in hand riding pony/horse
there are others but brian needs some batteries

Some larger shows have foreign breeds classes. Is there a freisan society? they would run their own shows.

Thanks for all the replies... I found a lovely show in a couple of weeks held indoors but as she looks like a big hairy mammouth at the moment i think i'll leave her til the spring lol!!

The friesian society only seem to do the gradings, but not normal shows...
