Fascinating article, thanks for posting. From what I've read insulin resistance in horses and the effect it can have even at a low level is something people are becoming increasingly aware of. This is particularly the case with barefooters who regularly see fluctuations in the condition and capability of hooves related directly to diet and the time of year.
One of my horses was severely overweight for a time before she came to us, I do wonder what damage that has done to her system long term.

Excellent article isn't it. Had a good discussion about EMS with Hugh earlier on in the year and I think it is definitely something more people are becoming aware of. I do wonder, though, if people will start to blame their horses being fat on EMS when it is more a case of far too much grass! Maybe that's just the cynic in me though ;)

I agree an excellent article. But I was advised not to feed anything with alfalfa in it to my pony as it can exacerbate symptoms. No research done, just word of mouth.
