Its not 'horse people' problems - its internet\email etiquette. There are many articles available on the 'rules' of how to communicate on boards or in email available and it will help you out if you familiarise yourself with a few of them if you intend to use the internet\email\message boards a lot.
The 'rules' are there because its so hard to put a 'tone' across in written messages and therefore its easy for a reader to become upset by reading a message in a different way from your intention.
This is a very nice forum but if you stray into some others and start using caps all the time you will be on the receiving end of some fairly torrid flames (a flame is when someone abuses you, generally shouting ie using ALL CAPS, flame wars can be downright lethal if you are on the receiving end)

It's the same with anything you write!! Not just over the internet or email - snail mail letters too!!
My other half used to write all his letters in capitals when he first started using a computer because he didn't understand how to get rid of them!! And he wondered why people took offence to his letters!

Just to add a bit of info.... The varying heights of letters help people to process written words more quickly. One of the first things we process in seeing a word is it's "shape."
So, when writing to others, why not lessen their processing time a little and remove the caps lock?
