I share a pony who is a new forest she is lovely. Who agrees? She is a perfect family pony but also has an AMAZING jump.

i dont know much about new forests (they don't seem to have a 'reputation' like eg exmoors or welshies do!), but my friend bought one recently and he is a complete and utter poppet!!

I agree with you! I have two and they are brilliant! totally different personalities though, but poppets in their own way. And they jump fantastically too - although one of them really 'pings' over them as she is still learning.
When i got them a few people tutted at me and said i didnt know what i was letting myself in for, but i wouldnt change them for the world :)

Ive got a 13.2hh nf mare whos 9 ive had her since she was 2.5, im 21 so officially an "adult who rides a pony" shes a total babe and i wouldnt swap her for all the horses in the world!
She can be a pain in the a*** sometimes but then she just looks at you like butter wouldnt melt and all is forgiven! (Yes i do have mug tattoo'd across my forhead).
I will try and get some pics up.

yes I am potnoddles friend with the NF and he's a complete darling (so far at least!) and he's only five.
He certainly has a spring in his toes as he jumped out of his stable so has to live out all year now - not that he is complaining as he seems to be happy in the field with his friends.

Do people rug their new forests in the winter if they are not clipped?

I don't think that keeping weight on will be a problem with mine as we have good grazing even in winter due to field rotation and at the moment he is not being exercised much other than at weekends as I have been poorly and it very dark after work.

I have a new forest too. He's got a blanket clip, but is still naked in the day and rugged at night. He's be naked 24/7 if he wasn't clipped, until it got relly, scarily cold and probably only then if I was feeling generous, :P apart from anything, he has plenty of fat to keep him warm.
Having said that, he is now dropping weight, thatnks to an increase in work load too, so I shall have to see how it goes, have just started to give him topspec, but if he looses much more he'll probably get rugged.
