Despite having dyspraxia, I have a real love for dressage. I think becuase I'm so clumsy and awkward on my own feet that the only time I get to be beautiful is on the back of a horse :) I would love to do unaff local dressage shows, but part of the problem with my dyspraxia is that I have no short term memory - therefore making remembering a dressage test hard-to-impossible :(
Is it possible to get a "caller" at normal competitons?

In local competitions I would think that would be no problem, have a look on the British Dressage website too, have you got a local Riding Club - you could ask them too ?

Yes, certainly at riding club level it seems to be allowed. I have no medical reasons, but would need a caller as well (unless having my brain is a medical reason?)

You absolutely can have a caller at affiliated shows at every level, and I have never seen an unaff show NOT permit callers, if you see what i mean. Lots and lots of people have them. You don't need anyone special to be your caller, most people just get a friend to read for them. The only rule is that the caller is ONLY allowed to read what is on the sheet, nothing more.
The only place you cannot have a caller in a dressage test is at the Area Festivals, and Championships, and in Horse Trials. Worry about those when you get there !
Very best of luck with your dressage tests and keep us posted on your results !

Just make sure your friend revises it first.
'Ok, track right at C'
*Starts tracking right at C'
'Oh no wait! Left....left....I meant left!'

As others have said, having a caller is no problem at unaffiliated or affiliated with the exceptions of festivals and championships (maybe even permitted at festivals  ). At the competitions I have been to, there are more competitors with callers than without - so go and have fun :D

hi,
I have very bad dyspraxia too and have had callers in the past, as someone else said make sure you have gone through the sheet plenty of times with the caller or you get 'left at c......no no i mean right'

Oh, you are a star :D Thank you! Going to start working on our circles this month, and keeping an eye out for unaff days nearby... I think there's a riding club nearby and i'm sure there are other people at the yard that must go to competitions (we've just moved to a new yard so not sure about local places!)

hahaahaa!! You know what - I'm so worry i'd turn the wrong way anyways as past of my problem involves confusing left/right anyways! Why the hell do I love dressage so much when I have problems with balance, direvtion and spatial awareness :D
I'm just a glutton for punishment it seems

Could you write L and R on your gloves? (where you can easily see them while riding).
We did this for my little (dyslexic) sister, but that was just at a riding school competition, worked quite well and she didn't go wrong in her test

Actually, that's a great idea... get light-coloured gloves and write on them with markerprobably just on the thumb joint (also means i have to keep my thumbs up!) :)
I shall try that out - thanks!!

A friend never knew her left from right, and she used to have a piece of black tape stuck on the glove on her left hand..:D:D
