I don't understand what you mean by 'jump standards'. Is that your word for wings, the side of the jump?

I think she means the things you put your poles on.

I know my stable built our own, but i'm not sure how to describe how to do it. Why not look at some actual standards and try to copy that pattern?? that should work. :)

If you know someone who is somewhat skilled in woodwork (maybe a family member?), they could probably easily duplicate them from a couple of pictures. You would need to buy the cups, of course. We recently made cavalletti and it was pretty easy to do, but I have a husband who knows his way around the shop. I think the standards would be pretty easy to make too, if you have the equipment and a little knowledge of construction.

I know there is also a book available all about jump construction, which may have plans to help if you're unsure.

Yup Maverick, those would be wings! :D

See? I'm learning all the UK horse language, thanks to Saddle-Up and NR :) .

Anyway, the standards are usually made out of 4x4 wooden posts, Nikki. They can be as tall as you need them. The holes for the jump cups should be in 3 inch increments. At the base, you'll need 4 wooden slabs positioned so they support the standard. I'll post a picture because I can't explain it, lol ;) .
