First ear shot

I finally managed to get my first ear shot! I so want to go out exploring on the lovely trails we've got around the barn, but my barn isn't really set up for it - they don't do organised hacks and people just go out with friends on their own horses. I was quite frustrated about this during the spring and summer, as while I was just having lessons once a week it was very difficult to arrange, but now I'm leasing Spice, hopefully I'll be able to go more often. On Tuesday it was raining but not pouring so two of us decided to go as we'd arranged. There was about 10 min of minor roads and then we were in the woods, on up and down forest roads and paths. I wasn't quite brave enough to canter but we trotted a fair bit and it felt wonderful, especially after all the recent work we've been doing on letting go and feeling free. I felt completely at ease with Spice, she was adorable - very interested in everything but not edgy at all, and even when a dog came rushing up to a gate barking she only jumped a couple of strides. We were out for an hour and a half altogether - that's the longest I've ever been on a horse and my legs were so tired! There was a lot of mud, puddles, tree roots and mixed ground so it was great experience for staying 'in the middle', but hard work!

Thank you - I love that pic! It's the first one of the two of us where she looks equally involved and happy (I've just been leasing her for 2 months) :)

Nazdaq I took the digital camera and my OH rigged it so it was on a key holder round my neck and impossible to drop!

Brilliant idea! Only half of my screen works on my phone due to it being dropped and stood on by a fat cob....no names mentioned ;)

Congratulations on having a really wonderful time with your horse - you do look really relaxed and happy. I had my first hack two weeks ago just for half an hour in local woods and it was great, so different from the menage.
