Hi, just wondered if there are any other PRE owners on this forum? I have a 4 year old I bought earlier this year as a stallion but have had him gelded since as I wasn't planning to stand him at stud

Not yet but one day :D I love Iberians and definitely want to get one at some point :D
You've already broken the cardinal rule of the board though though ... we need PHOTOS and lots of them :D

Hi, yes I did forget the photos in this section but posted them in a thread in the Cafe Area, looks like you might have found them though by your reply in that thread!
I love Iberian horses too and was torn between a PSL and PRE but it ended up being easier to source a PRE so that's what I ended up with. They can be a spookier than lusitanos but mine is from a bullfighting line and is really very bold, if he seems soemthing new/strange after his initial 'stare' he usually walks right up for a better look and trys to chew/head butt it! The downside of his breeding is that he's very strong willed and quick on his feet, although that hasn't been a problem yet thankfullly:)

Yes, sorry, found them after I'd replied on here :D Typical
He sounds like a real character, I can't wait until I can see the piccies :)
I've just come back from Heather Moffett's and her PRE stallion (http://www.enlightenedequitation.com/public/gallery.html) is much easier than her PSL gelding and stallion. They're all beautiful though :D She also has an Hispano Arab who is like a labrador, he's just adorable :D It was so nice to be around these gorgeous horses over the past few days. Can't wait until I have one of my own (as well as Saff of course who I love to bits and wouldn't change her for the world).

I have two :D
Both grey and both mares. I have Cueva, mainly Bohorquez and Sevillano lines and new kid on the block Tuna, who is pure Cartujano (Carthusian) by the calificado stallion Olimpico XVI and her grandsire is Ingenioso XX.
Tuna was bred here:

I also ride PSL and find that the PSL is far hotter than the PRE, with a much smoother and straighter action, I train in Portugal in the Classical Portuguese tradition.
My dream horse would be a dun Veiga bred PSL stallion...
PS In Portugal I ride a 16.1 PSL stallion who is pure Veiga, he is the safest kindest horse in the world.

Well there was one for sale recently, he was done but can't remember his breeding :) I was in love with him, he was just yummy :D At £11k I couldn't afford him though :(

Lucky you having two , and also being able to train out in Portugal, where abouts do you go? Now I've bought mine the most I can hope for is a week away training per year, funds won't allow much else! I'm having lesson once a month with a BD trainer who also does a lot with working equitation as that's what I want to try eventually.
And you mentioned your ideal horse being a dun PSL stallion - I saw the most amazing horse at the working equitation championships this year, he was dun PSL stallion ridden by the Portugese world champion and he was absolutely stunning with the most beautiful uphill canter. Don't know if he was Veiga though, shame I can't remember the name

I train with the Oliveiras! Well, LF really, LF's son is David Oliveira who rode the dun Luso in the WE championships here recently..
Not so expensive as you think, lessons MUCH cheaper than equivalent in UK, then cheap Easyjet flight to Lisbon...
I learn more in one lesson with LF Oliveira than in 20 lessons here. If you are really interested in a lesson in Portugal give me a PM.;)

You can find PRE for a better price than that! He must have been extremely talented to have been that price (Or simply overpriced!)

Ah, so you've seen that stallion? He would be anyone's dream horse! :D
And thanks for the offer for more info on lessons in Portugal, I may take you up on it when I'm back in the money and riding at a more appropriate level again. Just working on the basics at the moment after an 8 year break from serious riding.
Ever heard of a PRE having larangeal paralysis before, no one else seems to? My horse has it, it came on rapidly about 3 weeks after he was castrated and bought back into work :( It's a shame for such a young horse but it shouldn't restrict him doing dressage up to a certain level as he can manage farily long periods in canter without tiring, although he sounds noisy as hell!
I'm slightly worried about what comments I'll get from onlookers when I get round to competing - I don't want people thinking I'm riding a horse with broken wind which I'm sure they will think if they don't know about the condition. My vet has said you can't harm to the horse by riding, they'll just run out of steam quicker than usual due to the restricted airway plus be very noisy

I ride an Andalusian mare at a RS. She is nice, easy riding horse, willing, not stuborn but moody sometimes. One of my favorites at RS

Cheaper than you think, plus when I had my lesson there last december I had to ridden for 2 years and had not cantered in 7. After 2 hours I was doing passage, all laterals and cantering around like a maniac!
Well worth going, I really did learn such a lot in such a short space of time. I actually felt like a half decent rider.
BTW not specifically heard of LP in PRE but it is not uncommon in TBs. You can have a tie back operation done but it is expensive or you can have him 'tubed' but as a last resort, see info below:

That's one of the main reasons I had mine gelded because unless you have your own yard it's very difficult to find one that will accept a stallion and let you turn him out! I don't belive in stabling them 24/7. Mine was 3 1/2 when I bought him directly from Spain and had only had 8 weeks of breaking but overall he hasn't done much wrong either. He's always been safe as houses in the stable and has only been a handful when ridden when he's been genuinely scared of something he hasn't seen before out hacking
Have you got any pictures of yours, I'd love to see them?!!;)

He looks lovely, and filled out nicely for a 3 year old :D
Don't worry too much about the gelding, as long as you keep an eye on it to ensure there's no infection afterwards he should heal fine. My horse had a minor infection afterwards buut it cleared up quickly with anitbiotics. I didn't start ridng him again until about 3 weeks after the op (and then only very lightly in walk) but until then he was walked out in hand 3 times a day to help circulation and for the swelling to go down.

North Farm Andalusians are highly rated (not far from me), my farrier just bought a youngster from them on the recommendation of Peter Maddison Greenwell who keeps his Stallions here in the village.
I always said I'd like one....then I bought an ID this week...one day ;)
