So it was my 3rd lesson and on the last jump, a fairly large cross pole, i went over the jump and around the horses neck. I thought i was ok so got back on and done the jump again, only just managing to stay on.

It was the end of the lesson and it wasnt till i got off i realised that my ankle really hurt. Now its really swollen and I cant walk on it :(

But wierdly enough, im glad i fell off, as it was not the most frightening experience in the world and i wont mind doing it again, its just the after pain.

get it x rayed...it will be worse by tomorrow and it may need strapping as if it swells over night you may not get a shoe on - have it checked out....

Thanks for the concern big ears but im sure it will be fine, i can wiggle my toes so nothin is broken. i am trying to persuade someone to go and get me a support bandage but they dont seem to be going anywhere fast
I also think chocolate will help with the pain

Remember R.I.C.E - rest, ice, compression, elevation. If you can stand it, out your foot in a bucket of water with lots of ice. It's not pleasant but it really works. I've had loads of ankle injuries with netball and a bucket of ice is always the first thing I do.

sorry, I meant 'put' your foot in water not 'out'!

hope ** feeling better soon..

My recipe for recovery consists of .. chocolate and a glass of wine..plus being waited on hand and foot! ( and I get the remote control)

I think I should disembark daily!

Big ears is right.
Have it X rayed.
I broke my ankle walking on the coastal path and waited 4 days before we got home and I went to the hospital. I was walking on it for four days and didnt realise I had broken it.
So when I fell off this week and twisted my other ankle, it looked just as bruised so I went and got it X-rayed.
And the nurse told me that
1. I was right to go
2. they no longer believe in elastic bandages, and
2.whether they need to plaster you or not (immobilise the bone) depends on the exact location of the break.
No broken ankle this time but the nurse said she thought there was a break in my foot.
The X ray showed an old break in my foot, done some time ago, dont know when. May be when a horse trod on me some time?
But the point is one really doesnt know, without an X ray whether there is damage to a bone or just soft tissue, nor how to treat it.

hmm, im not sure. i dont fancy the idea of sitting in A&E for 6hrs just to be sent home with a bandage. I like the R.I.C.E, chocolate and ibuprofen method, it seems to be working so far. Ill see how it is in the morning, if its worse i might take my sunday roast down to the hospital with me in the morning

Why A&E? I'm not talking serious stuff here.
I went to our minor injuries clinic at the local hospital. Do you have one of those? It is quick - no doctors - you see a nurse and they take X rays.

I hurt my ankle when I fell off back in May...as I could wriggle my toes I thought I was OK, and didnt get an x-ray, it did swell up very badly indeed and the bruising was spectacular. When it was still sore to walk on 2 weeks later I went to my GP who referred me for physiotherapy, and now it is fine. (I did do the exercises!) She also prescribed me strong painkillers and anti-inflammatories.

Suggest you do as Skib recmmends, even if it isn't broken physio will do it good and help it heal more quickly. And the sooner you start it the better.

No, my local hospital doesnt have one of those, we do have a walk in clinic near me but they cant x-ray and tell you to go to A&E.
Its still swollen 2day but there is hardly any bruising (yet) and i can put more weight on it so i dont think they will need to chop my foot off just yet :D

My stickability is just fine hunny!!! I just need to maybe not ride in my muck boots unless I am hacking I think lol!!!

Blue was fine and I got what I wanted in the end!!!!

I would defo pamper myself (and the ankle) and if its not better come tues then I would have a doc look at it.

Hope you feel better soon

Glad you able to get back on and finish your ride. I think too that falling builds confidence atleast that's what I'm trying to convince myself now after my fall yesterday! Get better soon. Definitely eat lots of chocolate, dark chocolate they say is good for you now:D.

i went to see my chiropractor today (i have a bad back so have regular visits anyway) he said my ankle had moved out of place and clicked it back, he clicked me hip into place and then he clicked both me shoulders into place.

He looked at me a bit p****ed off and said that riding would not help me keeping my shoulders in place :o
Nothing broken though :D

Thanks for all the support though, i dont feel like such a fool now :D:D:D

Glad you are ok, better safe than sorry. Riding is one of the best workouts there is! Ooh bet all that clicking was painful!
